The sunny coast was spared.a bit of wind but not as bad as summer storms, and hardly any water for us so far
interesting, qldfrog. I'm glad it wasn't too intense.

we shall see where the low travels next; it looks like northern NSW will get a top up!

Already a lot of rain down south and will get worse:
Northern Rivers and Gold Coast will have serious damages ultimately
Some heavy rain expected for us on sunny coast today/tomorrow but if staying in more reasonable 200mm range, we can handle that
Yes thoughts for south of Brisbane /GC

Whoever is in charge of these dams have had a very long time to release water in an orderly manner. Maybe there's a very good reason that they didn't? Or, they didn't learn anything from the last Brisbane River flood.

Seven southeast Queensland dams are overflowing and nearly 350,000 homes and businesses in the region have lost power, as ex-tropical cyclone Alfred continues to hover off the coast.

The rain is starting to pick up in Brisbane, and 295,732 properties are without power in Queensland, mostly on the Gold Coast and on Brisbane’s bayside.

Brisbane’s drinking water sources – the gated Wivenhoe and Somerset Dams – are not releasing water, but seven other ungated dams in the region are spilling, including Enoggera Dam, Cedar Pocket Dam and the Gold Coast’s Hinze Dam.

Residents in the Redlands region are being told to conserve drinking water after Seqwater pumping stations lost power overnight.

“The water is safe to drink, but tropical cyclone Alfred has caused disruption in the water network,” Seqwater said.

“When it is safe to do so, our crews will travel to site and undertake restoration work which should result in the return of water supply to affected customers as soon as possible.”

In NSW, there are about 42,600 properties without power, mostly between Tweed Heads and Grafton.

Essential Energy told customers that crews would start to work to restore power only when it was safe.

“Weather conditions are predicted to deteriorate this afternoon and into the evening that is expected to bring more rain and hamper electricity restoration efforts,” the utility said.

Yes, local groups were raging about this 5 days ago...when it. Was still time to act
Cyclone path was unknown but rain event was a given.
And now torrential rain coming so they match it with water releases.
Same story as 2011 when Brisbane flood was mostly man made as found in the courts...
I have lost any hope in this country management so will not rant, just plan for their **** ups:
Water, food, power, health and wealth...

most the rain from this event has fallen in NSW and will continue to, as the now-East coast low tracks south.

Our turn is tomorrow, plenty to fill whatever could have been released from dam.

Wivenhoe Dam releases imminent ahead of Alfred's arrival

3 days agoCyclone Alfred: Seqwater announces releases likely in next 48 hours. South East Queensland's dam operator has confirmed water releases are now likely from multiple dams in the path of Tropical ...

how do you release water from a spillway?

When was water released from the dams that could release water?

I thought Wivenhoe was the most critical dam to be managed. Maybe it's not going to matter.

Most if not all dams have a release mechanism, wivenhoe definitely had one, and most dams are used as water network sources which can be diverted back.
The expected flood did not happen on the sunny coast, we had a bit of wind, hardly any water so far 20 to 30mm..less than last week anyway
And even if we get more rain today, it will be nothing unusual.
So the sunny coast dams, already full are all good.
People in the GC, it is another story as fir Lismore.
I am amazed that while flooding every 5 y or so, the northern Rivers does not have a flood mitigation dam..nothing i am aware of?
And same dam could be used as battery for the crackpot RE leaders so money is no object, and if RE stamped, they can flood the crap of any of the last 3 gold plated snail living there..for the good cause
A dam in Northern Rivers?

please don't link me with bas
Bas is uniquely unique, and that is nearly a compliment.
Can we now agree RIP Alfred?
He was a late bastard, talking big, acting small and cowardish
He is just leaving behind an ugly track of muddy festering debris and billions of costs for the insurers.
But a nice boost to the GDP next quarter.
ALP will boast

Not sure if further flooding can be discounted. It might turn around and come back too.

Any conspiracy theories on how TC Anthony changed into TC Affred?
