wow such resounding turnaround
now Turnbull holds the aces!!
the only threat - (that I would bet)??

..............
Jackie Kelly - and her racists

Maybe the real threat is :-
Turnbull is his own man - and above all the BS?

Let's have a brand new Lib party
completely wipe the rest to the trashheap of history ...
(sorry. lib voters , but I couldn't think of a kind way to say this )

Just think - we'd be a Republic before we knew it

PS and furthermore - he handles Chasers better than the rest of em put together

But in his defence, don't forget poor dithering Alexander has done it all before, last century.

Spot on...

Regardless of Liberal rhetoric about Labor being a one man band, the fact was the Liberals in 2007 were a one man band.... and they themeselves knew it, which is why Howard was never really told to go.

Now let it be known and understood, no-one in the Liberal Party was prepared to come out and say "the emperor's wearing no clothes", especially not lily-livered Peter Costello who was in the best position to do so. John Howard was treated as a god, his word was sacred, without question, above reproach.

A most unhealthy environment, destined for oblivion.

By saying he would stay on "as long as my party needs me", John Howard in effect was publicly stating that as he lived by the sword, so he would die by the sword.

Well that's just fine for him, but as a result it's left his beloved Liberals Party in tatters, destined to be in opposition for at least two terms maybe more.

Regardless, of his many achievements, this will be his epitaph.

Regards YN.

Yippee just wat we need

so what? are you spewing about that?

I reckon the funiest thing was all the money labor spent just getting into power.

WHO WILL PAY FOR THAT ROFLMAO

Enjoy your new democracy

No FF I'm not "spewing about that". I don't vote Liberal anyway, it's just my observation, nothing more nor less.

Thing I wonder about is who is going to finance the Liberal's next election campaign .... Brethen, Nicholl's society , some other right wing minority group , ?? .... can bet they will be scraping the Barrell in the next election and even worse the following one!

Media release today re: Alexander Downer's chance of running for Lib leadership..

---------------------------------

The most senior Liberal member of federal parliament after Saturday's election appears unlikely to contest the leadership, suggesting that was something he already had done.

"After I've been the opposition leader once before and I've been the foreign minister for so long, I don't sort of leap out of bed in the morning thinking I'd love to be the opposition leader now. I find it a bit hard to get that enthusiastic about it."

Mr Downer believed the Liberals needed to build for the future.

"They have a lot of fantastic people, including a lot of good young people who can make a great contribution to the party in the future."

-----------------------------------

I think Downers repeatedly declared "lack of enthusiasm" should put his chances to bed once and for all.

I'm also curious as to why he used the term "they" rather than "we" when referring to the Liberal party. Is he no longer a member?

On the positive side (sic), Tony Abbott has thrown his hat into the leadership ring contest. He obviously has a "healthy" (sic) ego and regards himself in a different light to most other peoples opinions of him..

"DING, DING....and, the winner is?"

You haven't got the Guy in this Suit Listed on your Poll... shame he has all the makings of a good leader...???? HB

What about Greiner or Kennett?

I am concerned that there is no longer a strong alternative to the elected government. Like the situation in NSW the government has become complacent and regressive.

Why don't ASF members band together and elect a group who would pose a viable challenge to the elected government. e.g Market First Party.
There's enough political insights here and trading profits can be used to fund our campaign.

Just a thought.

What planet does Abbott live on! The coalition have just been shafted for their extreme right policies and lack of acceptance of 21st century challenges. Not only is Abbott extreme right, but throughout the campaign he shot himself, and the coalition, in the foot every time he opened his mouth. In standing for the leadership he has stated that he "would stand as a loyalist to the Howard agenda and declined to offer any new policy directions" (SMH). A truly deluded individual. I expect Turnbull will romp it in, and if he doesn't now, he will later.

Well they need to have a seat in Parliament (Federal), which neither do!

It will be fascinating to see who replaces Costello in Higgins (my seat) and will be a litmus test of where the party's future direction lies. I hope it is moderation.

Andrew Bolt a chance?

or maybe Michael Kroger can do a Malcolm Turnbull and give up the big bucks......

I cannot beleive i am hearing this... he is standing for the agenda that just got smashed in the biggest swing to opposition ever...

Strange!

Hahaha! I'm sure many would say that Abbott is "stranger than fiction"!

Damn! Good point SevenFX. He seems to have all the right qualifications for the job. Certainly listens a lot and connects with the younger generations....
