I voted before Costello withdrew.
I now add my name to Brendon Nelson's candidacy.
Lord forbid if Costello gets up.
And if Turnbull gets the nod so early, I think he will cop a trouncing in parliament - he's too close to Labor's policies at present and doesn't stand for anything that is uniquely "his".

Turnbull tried to get the Murray Darling sorted - Xenophon's pet topic ( albeit representing the Sth Aussies;)) - so there will be no fight, and possibly even Kevin will be forced by Senate to come round to what Turnbull wanted to do

Turnbull wanted to sign Kyoto - again wipes out the wind from Labor's sails there

He doesn't like extremist views - is reasonable - is a clean skin - can wing it as the wind blows on almost everything else ...

and his trump card ..

Turnbull just has to mention the republic debate - he's miles ahead of everyone ;)
(and what a great break with the Howard years that would make )

What about Philipp Ruddock??

rudd vs ruddock ... similar in name, similar in personality (or lack thereof)... charmless and hypnotising in their moronic delivery...

the whole of parliament will be sucked into a black hole of nothingness forcing people to realise that politics is all a charade and would be much more entertaining if treated as such, thus causing a great shift towards the raving looney party, the sun ripened tomato party and the surprise party amongst others... but ultimately leading to the chaser crew forming government and creating such growth in the GHI (gross happiness index) that not even Kev and Phil could not crack a smile... :D

problem solved

Mal Brough.

Somebody resign, and give MB a winnable by-election.

As when Simon Crean led the ALP, there was a leader only the rusted-on ALP voters could bear with. The Libs ought to recognise pronto that the parallel applies to Turnbull.

The man has successful lawyers disease: all tactics and no strategy.

Hockey? A good team player, but I don't see a leader.
Abbott? Sometimes even the rusted-ons find him hard going. A first-rate cabinet minister, but not a front-man.
Nelson? Speaking as a non-Liberal myself, I would strongly advocate Nelson as someone who has what it takes to lead the Libs out of the slough of despond and into the sewer of oblivion. When the story of "What's wrong with the Liberal Party?" is written, the name Brendan Nelson deserves a chapter heading.

Curiously, in the last 4 changes of Federal Government from 1972, the incoming new opposition leader has never gone on to lead the ex-government back to office, or ever to become PM.
(Snedden, Hayden, Peacock, Beazley).

Ok Mr Moderator. May as well shut this poll down. The candidates have changed too much since the start of the poll so I'll open another with the remaining contenders.

Who knows with Turnbull in charge he might win the next election (if not the one after) based on "Me too" policies. Sounds like a familiar story, doesn't it?
Should he get the nod Mr Turnbull should start off on the right track by supporting the ALP's IR reforms in the Senate. The IR laws went too far and cost the Coalition many votes, most of Howard's "battlers" ran back to the ALP. Mr Turnbull should follow his gut instinct and make the party greener (e.g. support the Kyoto Protocol).
