I'm using incredible charts and it's free for delayed data. Pretty happy with it except it doesn't have fibonacci - a big negative. Is there anything better than that for free or for less than $20 a month? I use sierra charts for intra-day charting. What do you use and why? Cheers.

Me thinks it's important when starting out to keep your fixed costs as low as possible; incrediblecharts are only A$15 per month and it has hourly updates. Was wonderin' what others are using? Sierra now has daily charts integrated with IB - but not for Aussie stocks (yet! coming soon I heard).

I use amibroker- would recommend it to anyone. Cheap too :)
Quotetracker does have some basic fib tools if you want to look at that.
You can hook it up to your broker for intraday data, and it has historical charts as well(although the data for these charts comes from the tradingroom site- I have no idea how accurate it is)

Is IB going to offer Australian stocks soon?

I used to use Quicken's Shareanalyser (which does have Fibs). Nowadays, I use Commec's Advanced charting as it easily meest my needs as a passive investor.

Quicken's SA is a very good starting point imo if you don't need all the bells and whistles of some of the more expensive applications.

After all, if you only need a mini-minor why by a rolls royce ;)

If you cant afford decent software you cant afford to trade?

That's why we're lucky to have so many free offerings which should satisfy most people's basic (and even intermediate degree) charting needs. Software like Amibroker is relatively cheap as well. See the many threads on charting software and cost/performance comparisons in this forum (use the search tool).

I did use Incredible charts but imo Egoli's free ProCharts beats it easily (free delayed data including global stocks, indices, FX and futures). See the various posts on it (has Fibonacci tools as well, very impressive imo).

I use Metastock have used it for 14years now (updated 3 times) now using ver9.1 with daily data from cooltrader for $40 pa. I am considering Advanced Get for Elliot wave, anyone using them comments appreciated. porkpie

I also use AmiBroker.

Buying AmiBroker is a one-off cost, and extremely good value, and you can use it with free data if you want to, like float.com.au.

Be aware though that free data is not adjusted for splits, etc, and the general quality is not as high as with other premium data services. Certainly good enough to get you started though IMO.
