NAB online trading is actually sanford securities in disguise ("white label" service from sanford). I've been using sanford for 7 years and reckon they're the best of any online broker I've used, out of the 6 or 7 I've used in the UK and Australia. Etrade (UK website) are one of the worst.

I don’t understand how E* timeouts work.

I agree, that if I do not refresh screen for a while, but if I click on one screen, have a quick look, 10 maybe 15 seconds, and when I want another screen to get log in screen is bit rich.
Luckily doesn't happen too often.

I am in a process of e-mail exchanges, but so far it is typical run around, do this, do that, what is your operating system ………...

I must be patient to keep this silly exchange of E-mails for a while, maybe I’ll get somewhere.

etrade is full of bugs and idiosyncrasies, for instance the NWE latest quarterly ann is still not visible in the anns list for that co. doesn't make sense why would this one lone link in a sea of ann links be broken?

ETrade gives me the craps especially noticable few days after public holidays, it always seems to die. If I experience one more problem with them, I'm out... had enough

While i generally experience problems with Etrade often, i can always get onto Power Etrade regardless of thier issues. Its provided by Iress and its a very good service.

Anyone else use this?

I did a trial of Power Etrade (through DirectShares but it's exactly the same service) and found it to be clunky and difficult to use compared with the CMC MarketMaker platform I currently use. It's also more expensive. I'm sticking with CMC for CFD's.
I use Directshares for simple long trades and they are OK but certainly not without problems. Not being able to log in when the market is moving is a big annoyance, but I'll keep my account open for the information service if nothing else.

What i have noticed for the standard setup, is that the time outs seem to be longer in non busy periods and progressivly get less as the server gets busier. For example, late at night it seems to take much longer to time out (up to 40 mins sometimes) but around opening time it will time out in a matter of seconds.

I'm wondering if the timeouts are variable depending on the number of connections to the server.

I am also using Power Etrade and agree it is quite a good and reliable platform and there are none of the timeout issues that come with the standard setup. Once I started using it I could never go back to the standard setup.

I use PowerEtrade as my base trading platform too. I have an CMC account but got sick of their constant re-quotes, so don't trade with them any more, though it has a nice platform. I trade CFD's with IG Markets now - very basic platform, very ordinary in fact, but no re-quotes, & I use PwerEtrade for data & timing trades on IG.

The time-out issue is, I think, to do with ASX data fees. From what I can gather Etrade are trying to save money basically. During market hours the ASX charge a fee, not sure if it is charged after market, but I assume Etrade are squeezing every last bit of efficiency out of screens that are idle.

Or are we talking about the Etrade website time-out? - this is just a security feature I think?.

Dubious, my PowerEtrade times out, are you saying yours doesn't?. Just have to move the mouse again for it to come back.

in my experience etrade has the biggest problems on sundays and through to mondays, almost as if they are using the weekend to try to tweak it or more like sort out their ongoing problems, i bet this tweaking/tampering/bug fixing often carries through to monday mornings - i can just imagine the stress the IT guys are going through to get it back on line in time for monday

To be specific website always timing out and sold some shares and cant use the funds yet.
