I have been unable to log on to the website since yesterday (2 Jan 2007), what a great start for the new year. Anyone else have trouble logging in?

I've been using old and new etrade all yesterday and today... no problems so far.

How have you found NAB, GP?
Okay so far.

Do they use web.iress?
Not that I'm aware of. Their top service level gives live streaming quotes, but from a demo they've got on the site, it looks like that just means market depth updating in near-real time.

I had WebIress with HSBC but almost never used it, so it doesn't matter to me that I don't have it now.

Cheers,
GP

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

Don’t know why, but one order failed to be generated – fatal error- , but they froze money that was used to create order.

Had to cancel another order to raise one I wanted in a first place.

More confirmation that Etrade + HSBC = perfect mismatch

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

every ann i look at i get a msg about the pdf file being processed and that it should be ok within a few a minutes, bloody ell,

the same pdfs come out fine from the asx website direct

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

Send them e-mail, but be warned, they'll come back with all sort of excuses that there is something wrong with your computer, usual stuff.

If you have internet problem it is your computer,
If you have program problem it is your operating system and so on..

Same here, and the latest announcements are not indicated in the portfolio view either. They don't respond to my emails. Maybe because I called them incompetent, unreliable and an embarassment ;)

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

I'm not with etrade but keep wondering why this post appears so frequently in the top asf posts....and now know , hence feel for you guys...

I had/have much the same probs some time back with commsec, but not for so long periods...

I see their share price (etr) keeps going up, so while you guys are loosing money they're making money...go figure...

Apart from complaining to them, as things don't seem to get fixed quickly in the million/billion dollar industry, what else can be done to these broking houses...???

Are their governering bodies that step in and give then a foot up the bum...???? if not compensate us...???

There seems little else but to put up n shut up, or WALK...??? .

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

Yeah, their stock has been a lot better than their service lately... :twak:

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ETrade becoming dominant online broker, it says

Source: SYDNEY, Jan 14 AAP
Published: January 14 2007, 4:55PM

Strong organic growth and the acquisition of HSBC has pushed Australian online broker ETrade closer to becoming a dominant force in the market.

Last week ETrade - 35 per cent owned by ANZ bank - forecast a half-year profit increase to December 31, of 15 to 20 per cent and expected double digit growth for the second half as well.

Chairman Kerry Roxborough said HSBC Stockbroking (Australia) Ltd was performing in line with expectations, and cemented its position as the second largest online broker in Australia.

Since June, account numbers at ETrade have increased by 42.5 per cent and now exceed 35,000 with assets under administration in excess of $19 billion.
:banghead:

Is this the reasonexisting costumers are being given the bum rash! :banghead:

"Clearly the main driver has been the acquisition of HSBC Australia Stockbroking, but also we have experienced strong organic growth during the past six months," Mr Roxborough told Sky News Sunday Business.

"Indeed, in recent months a survey indicated that ETrade had picked up around one third of all new private broking accounts across Australia.

"Given the current market conditions we would be anticipating we would be able to post double digit growth in the second half."

Mr Roxborough said further acquisitions opportunities and self-managed retirement funds were areas ETrade would look at to achieve growth.

"Self managed funds are an important growth area for us," he said today.

"The initiatives announced in the budget session last year were very welcome, and have given us the opportunity to look at servicing private individuals who wish to self manage their own superannuation funds with a much larger portfolio."oh MY god :banghead:

Last week, speculation mounted that the New York Stock Exchange was weighing up the Australian Stock Exchange as a takeover target.

Mr Roxborough said a potential ASX merger was of no real concern to ETrade as long as an exchanger was still available for its customers.

He said the market posed no real immediate hurdles.

"We don't see the valuations in Australia stretched, and we also don't anticipate that at least for the first half there will be any significant events that will cause the Australian market will retrace.

"We are expecting the next six months to pretty much be steady as she goes."
SO NO INTENTION OF FIXING THEIR ABYSMAL SERVICE  DAMN.

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

Looks like you have to threaten to take your business elsewhere. I don't know whether it was because of this but on my birthday they sent me a $50 Myer card, then a week before Christmas I rec'd a hamper eg bottle of wine etc the usual hamper stuff. Nice gesture but I'd prefer cheaper brokerage and a reliable site, although to be fair I rarely have problems with Webiress.

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

What!!!!!!!!!
all I got was a phone call from Friendly Chris, who I could call anytime ,however in the next few weeks he was moving so someone else would be taking over!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead: no money for me.
or hamper, but I suppose I did suggest that their email responders should be sacked,so,yeh.

At the end of the day acknowledging that I was able to log in to a total strangers account had to be me not recognising my own account,so you know :banghead:

Admittedly however, touch wood since friendly Chris rang I have not really had any major problems,so maybe they work in mysterious ways,in order not to lose the accounts.

I`m just waiting to find that really reliable company and then they won`t even see my dust.

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

I have a printable record of a $100.000 increase in my account (mistake)from a few months ago.Yes the zeros are correct. Sheesh ...I wish it was real.

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

I've got more stories...... :D
Story 1 - Several months ago I asked for Etrade to re-send my daily CFD statement, what I received was a daily statement for ALL of their CFD clients, names amounts everything.

Story 2 - One day I suddenly had $10000 extra in my account, the next day it was gone.

Getting too big for their collective boots?. visual let me know if you find a better one :)

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

hmmm I was one of those HSBC stockbroking customers, and I'm no longer an E-Trade customer (and if my experience is anything to go by, I suspect that Ex HSBC customers will be leaving in droves)... I had a lot of reliability problems, only one out of about 6 emails I sent them on various issues was answered, and the phone support was very ordinary too.

I was with HSBC for probably 14 months before they sold to E-Ttrade and I don't think I had a single problem... occasionally I couldn't log into my account after market hours but that was about it. I'm now with Comsec (with platinum pro) and whilst it is ok in many ways I still preferred the standard service that came with HSBC... and by way of comparison E-Trade I have to say does have a lot more research, than comsec, and the standard web "features" when you can find them and they are working, are far superior to Comsec's web offering, but for me their brokerage was too high, and their reliability was unacceptable.

HSBC had a great platfom, I never realised how good it was until I had no choice but to use something else ;)

Tony.

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

I agree. I liked HSBC too.

NAB's been pretty good so far though reliability wise, and not as expensive as Etrade.

One hassle though is that you can't enter your portfolio (you can do a watchlist, but not with purchase quantities), so can't get a live summary of the day's gain or loss in dollars. I have to use Yahoo again for that, but it's 20 minute delayed.

Unlike Etrade though, they do provide the match prices during the opening and closing elections, and their contract notes have individual prices and quantities rather than just an average price when it covers multiple prices.

Cheers,
GP

Re: Whats wrong with E-Trade this morning?

Hi Greatpig, have a look at medved quotetracker :) I'm pretty sure it has a login script for NAB, and will give you live data with % and $ changes as well as live charting :)

Quotetracker

best of all it is free, just has a small add pane at the top which isn't too intrusive :)

No sorry Dr.Doom,
that was my best story, the one where they either gave me thousands of dollars per day or took thousands of dollars per day is old,and not even very unusual, the account one was by far the best, althought when I kept on reporting the prices jumping all over the place and I mean jumping they also assured me that they had no record of me reporting being able to see someone else account.I got the feeling though that this was something that worried them.
Oh another time my account was loggen on all by itself.Of course friendly Chris assured me this was not possible, althought if you log on too many times it can happen!
