Australian (ASX) Stock Market Forum

Two-way block

I have unblocked a lot maybe 6 months ago, many but not all back into blocked mode within a month.
I will see again in 6 months.
Only one item, time, is priceless imho.
So with blocking, i save my time and save their own time: my gift...😀
No remorse here

I only Block those who I don't like!

Those who Clog up my Mail Box with Worthless Time wasting posts!

Those who Barrack for a Share as is they were in the Outer of a Football Game
and
Those Power Hungry who encourage a "Crabs in a Bucket " Mentality and those who side with them

NB: I like Blocking! LOL!

Although I understand the decision to have this function available in the best interests of the viability of the forum. It's the way society's gone unfortunately, and fighting it isn't going to help ASF.

This isn't at all true.

Part of what makes a good forum good is appropriate moderation. Simply not bothering with moderation and instead using a two way block just makes the forum as pathetic as the likes of Facebook. You might remember that before the invention of the two way block (I'm not sure where it was first used, but I first saw it on Facebook), forums didn't have such a thing. Everyone could see everything, and if someone was posting problematic content the moderators would take action. Back then, forums were so much better than they are today. If the discussion is not open and visible to all, you have a flawed community model.

The part about it being the way society has gone is, unfortunately, true, but as you say, that's unfortunate, and it's not essential to be part of the problem; it's far better to be part of the solution or at least resist the problem as best you can. When you acknowledge that there is a societal problem, why would you want to shrug your shoulders and be a willing part of it rather than stand as a resilient example of a piece of society doing better than the majority?

I have however self-imposed a ban on responding to posts on certain matters, the details of which will become apparent, effective 1 January. Reason = all things considered, I think certain matters are unresolvable discussion subjects and, given they're not directly related to trading, it's not achieving anything adding to that discussion here.
If that subject is the energy debate, I can understand your attitude.

You have more than done your bit to educate and inform us about the realities of the situation and as we have so often said the debate is more political than technical and is unresolvable on this forum.

So thank you for your knowledgeable input to the matter. Facts and figures are still helpful and we may draw or own conclusions in a more educated way if we have them.

As for blocking, I have never done that, although I can recognise people whose posts usually have no interest to me and I ignore them.

@SirRumpole Can't be bothered blocking anyone.
I have a couple that I genuinely can't stand and just don't waste my time reading their rubbish.
Just as easy to flick past and move on.

Evidently I Have been BLOCKED ON THIS THREAD since Sir Rumpole's post @ 8.34am

It seems every time I do WELL the "Crabs in the Bucket 'Go Green with ENVY and Cry to Joe and their Flock of LOSERS

Such is Life in ANGRY Seas I guess

Thanks Barney
Seems Like I need a Bigger Bucket

In the Brilliant series : "The Godfather of Harlem" in the 1960s they referred to " Crabs in a Barrel"
Looks like I am going to get a BIG HUGE Barrel

I love to see how my Lifetime Sentences are doing what they were designed to do!
It's like Music to my Ears

ENJOY!

Putting myself in the shoes of the forum owner / manager / moderator, the problem I see is that it's a difficult situation.

Ideologically I'm firmly opposed to censorship, political correctness and coddling of the mind in general. It's far better to get the truth out than to hide it just to avoid upsetting anyone.

However we're living in a society where that's increasingly rejected by many. A situation where "being offended" is seen as a problem, a serious one even, and not simply a statement of fact with no further consequence. I don't agree with that even slightly but it is what it is.

From there it's a question of what's best for the forum?

Noting that I don't have a definitive answer to that. :2twocents

I am a "blocker" but agree with @Smurf1976 : what is best for the forum?
Could i live wo blocking..sure.but i will waste time scrolling past posts i will try not bother reading and sadly will not resist answering some of the worst click baits offences
Not worse than FB..but FB is an abysmal model to compare to.
We do not want ASF to become FB..well except for FB bank balance....
All that to say i could live wo blocking.

Obviously up to Joe to decide that, but from personal preference I see a lot of posts (cartoons etc) in so called 'serious' threads that should go in 'Political Satire' as they don't really add anything to the 'meat' of the thread and are just a distraction.

  1. read thread
  2. log out
  3. read thread again
  4. log in again to comment ...

Comment. wow, lots of vapid histrionics, in bold, by someone.
Do I need to know that badly what the blocker wrote?
Pass.
I was just concerned that person X did not get an opportunity to participate in the worlds most important tipping competition.
I am very magnanimous in that respect.

This is the sort of post that explains one of the reasons I block often and widely. Its typical of the times we live in with the internet as a major means of communication. People use ad hominem attacks to bully anyone who holds views inconsistent with their own, weaponised polarisation is everywhere on SM.

I dont want to have to read the bile so many people resort to online, pretending that this sort of weaponised polarisation is somehow open rational discussion and we should just accept it is not a compelling argument in my view.

My life is so much better for never having to read this sort of content, here and on the other platforms I engage on, I am no longer triggered by seeing hatred, bigotry, racism and misogyny. I no longer have to read people's ad hominem attacks on my points of view, all of which makes me happier and saves me time - life's most valuable resource.

This means I can spend more time having interactions with people who do have divergent views to mine - but can express them rationally and without abuse and bad faith arguments.
Very thought provoking. Almost every line ticked a box for me.

I understand ASF is one of the (much) better forums on the net. Honestly I don't know because I just don't spend much time on other forums. But still;..

NB; Post # 368 & Post #369 are still missing in my records

I think it worth explaining the Origin of this 20 year Feud--
It started out as Fundamental Analysis vs Technical Analysis--

The Problem as I see it Joe allowed his Moderators the Power to Run riot
As my father used to say "Pay peanuts and you get Monkeys"

Joe, Why don't you ask why "THEY" I won't call them Monkeys as it would be an insult to Monkeys
Why do they Start Multiple Threads of a Single Share

Eg Why did they Start a New PDN Thread when there was Too many already
Some people like Dyna sometimes hint they want my View but if I try to help I get the OOPS!
They then think I have left them out to Dry

I am Blocked by >50 threads But I am not Complaining
Crikey! Who would Complain about being Blocked by " A Useless Thread"

I just thick If one Searches PDN or any XYZ then every body else' s post should be available but not the BLOCKED

It just shows me they have Lost all there money and only hanging on by a thin thread and LOL to each other

ALSO
Why have "THEY" Blocked my Thoughts on all Israel Gaza Palestine and Genocide Threads ?
Crikey! I am One of the Good Guys

Anyway that's just a tip of the Iceberg for now
