Dividends help no doubt, but I can't help but think that in difficult times, investing for dividends is kind of like short change, Dona. Last few days, distributions have been pinging on my phone, but on the whole, I'm behind....so on one hand, divs and distributions help lessen the pain if you like.

Was reading an article this morning, and it resonates with me at one time or another....why hang on and not move on etc....

my 'investing for dividend' plays ... did that 20 years ago.

Wow, you have faith and patience, Dona. For me, the only faith and patience is investment in real estate. Don't know why I can't apply that principle to stocks (I can't answer that question myself)

no you need foresight and vision for real estate , see a good bit of dirt grab it and wait ( even better if everybody ridicules you for buying that piece of dirt )

the stock market hums on turnover everything is geared to make you buy/sell , as a trader you need to filter out the noise

i currently have an order in the market for CWP but could be tempted to swap that to CLW ( cum-div. ) if the price takes another dip

of the stocks mentioned in the video , i MIGHT splash some cash at WBC i had planned to abandon it completely but messed up the exit ( and still participated in the DRP ) , will be looking for a breakout on the downside , the buy-price will DEFINITELY be sub-$20 , more likely i will put a peg on my nose and look for somewhere near $15 ( and lock it in the 'embarrassing ' drawer )

apart from my MYS holding i am stone cold on Ozzie banks but would consider increasing my holding in KSL ( having also divested the VUK holding ) , and the MQG holding is so far over my target price ( to add more ) i only read the anns. to check progress and div. declarations .good luck if playing in this market in the next 6 weeks

For those who have a Commsec account, listening to the end of day report and especially the morning report is for me, very important. Tom Piotrowski is very good in the morning reporting, an education in itself.

Follow Commsec on twitter for news or anything stock market related....it's reliable and up to date....https://twitter.com/commsec?lang=en
