Plenty struggling here also, but hard to believe when visiting the major shopping centre down the Hill.On the streets of Victoria, the households here are struggling.
those in WA seem paved with gold.

I certainly don't have an any issue with CCTV anywhere. I have nothing to hide or hide from. You can tell things are starting to get tough out on the street, check out the video footage they put up.
Bunnings defends 'intrusive' CCTV tactic with shocking footage
Yes and no, i do not worry about private independent company on their ground.I certainly don't have an any issue with CCTV anywhere. I have nothing to hide or hide from.
Perhaps it is those that have a skeleton or two in the closet that are making the most noise.
Yes, everyone would be horrified if the government did it, but my question is, if Google say did it, sure they don't own an army and their aims are directed towards profit but - if they know where I am in the world at any time, how much of a step would it to take control?Yes and no, i do not worry about private independent company on their ground.
I am more worried about the state tracking me via facial, car plate recognition.
If as i do, you believe your biggest threat is the government , as countless fascists gov. have demonstrated..either directly or indirectly via preventing me from medicating or feeding myself , travelling restrictions or even self protection and having to depend on a corrupt incompetent system.
Then the government tracking me is an issue.
That Bunnings, Woolies or whoever check my face vs their db or previous troublesome customers..i could not care less until i know the government, be it police ato or thought control will grap these records with their dirty hands
Google is obviously already aware of where i go, what i do, the pictures i take or what i buy, and even via the wallet can know how much i spend, where..but google can not force me to wear or use my phoneYes, everyone would be horrified if the government did it, but my question is, if Google say did it, sure they don't own an army and their aims are directed towards profit but - if they know where I am in the world at any time, how much of a step would it to take control?
Or just use this information to have undue influence on Government operations?
I would argue in the USA, where workers rights are lower, and IT already have a direct line to Government, it wouldn't take much for an alliance to take place to our detriment.
That said, I thought the Bunnings plan where they match faces from a database and destroy all other records was OK, as long as this wasn't modified in the future. (But how would we know?).
And I cant see Bunnings trying to takeover the country.
I dunno, they've got the pitchforks and torches. And I cant see Bunnings trying to takeover the country.

I'm interested to know how wide spread facial recognition in businesses is.
We installed an updated system a few years ago that had the option, I didn't get around to trying it but it was available.
The system wasn't high tech either, above Swann, but nothing special.
Same.
CBA is the bank for more than one in three Australians. Everyone is spending more on essentials – food, housing, etc – but there is a clear age divide when it comes to the fun things, discretionary spending. Young Australians, aged 34 and under, are spending less (and less) while older Australians are spending more.
well they weren't when i visited Perth in 2012 , BUT you could see the potential of WAOn the streets of Victoria, the households here are struggling.

One of the really depressing aspects in the above tble is that wile over the last year the real unit labour costs have gone up by 1.6%, the GDP per hour worked has decreased by 0.8%ABS figures out for September quarter.
Growth just 0.3%, less than inflation.
GDP per capita fell for the fifth quarter in a row, now down 1.5% for the year.
We have started the recession.

I believe this. People are bloody hopeless at work. One of the really depressing aspects in the above tble is that wile over the last year the real unit labour costs have gone up by 1.6%, the GDP per hour worked has decreased by 0.8%
people want more, but work less.

@moXJO I know that feeling also well.Few things I've noticed:
People are out in hordes at the shopping centres. Rough guess 50% with shopping bags.
Sales are getting deep discounts. Almost worth buying from stores. Temu must be killing retail though.
I can't get new parts in this country. It's reached joke proportions. I'm forced to get a lot of stuff from overseas.
Australia 2024,: building a shed.@moXJO I know that feeling also well.
Needed a new alternator for one of my tractors and don't like non genuine parts.
Still waiting on the new one from Germany.
Only thing is the time frame was December, the year of delivery was not disclosed.
I asked for removal of duplication.not sure how it happened..Once is enough, especially with meAustralia 2024,: building a shed.
Signing August ,paying, slab delayed: weather, whatever..fair.
Once slab completed mid November, ask for delivery date of materials (actual shed): mid January, please confirm your colour choices ! WTF...
"You understand the weather and we stop manufacturing /shipping on the 19th of December "
In 2024, a major Australian company is not even able to sequence manufacturing ahead...
Should not be doing business IMHO.
I would prefer it to stay alive till completion..obviously..but that is pathetic..It seems even with instant money transfer, IT systems and spreadsheets, our productivity is still based on outdated processes.saw same in building industry...ahhh well
