Basically it’s a 1% chance of occurring each year, so although it’s unlikely, it could happen every year, because each year is still 1%.(1 percent chance of occurring every year) in a 100 year time span
The sea wall that was built around the Fukushima nuclear reactor was built to withstand all previous waves on record, but sometimes unprecedented things happen.Worked on a project and a serious amount of money was spent on the sea wall to protect from expected future rises in sea levels.
So few of these, I would be less worried of long term sea rise..still non existent than storm surges and tsunamis which will definitively happen one day, but that is a great way of thinking.Worked on a project and a serious amount of money was spent on the sea wall to protect from expected future rises in sea levels.
Are there any articles on it?So few of these, I would be less worried of long term sea rise..still non existent than storm surges and tsunamis which will definitively happen one day, but that is a great way of thinking.
Here on the sunny coast council, the teal brainless council is actually breaking the advances of the past century by letting the salt water back in, destroying crop...happy to create mosquito breeding grounds..probably willing to bring back malaria to ensure biodiversity
Ok let me searchAre there any articles on it?
Sounds interesting.

Note I quote ABC which as you can imagine is presenting a very biased view.Removing tidal gates..so ensuring flooding of arable land during king tides etc...Farmers protest '$35 million swamp' as authorities progress controversial flood plan
Farmers and landowners claim a major local, state, and federal government project aimed at reducing flood risks could kill crops and breed swarms of mosquitoes spreading Ross River fever.www.abc.net.au
Then we will see images of dead trees with headlines of: rising seas and climate change killing coastal wetland and harvests..
So am I cynical, biased or just able to use my brain.......
Exactly. I think your cynicism is well founded.Removing tidal gates..so ensuring flooding of arable land during king tides etc...Farmers protest '$35 million swamp' as authorities progress controversial flood plan

its kinda a flaw us humans have, we believe because something has never happened before that it won’t happen
All scientists that know what they are talking about accept that its been both hotter and colder before, But what is you point?you are right but even when it has happened before, if it does not suit the current ideology it gets ignored.
Geological records clearly show that climate warming and cooling have happened before, yet the activists will not accept that it has been hotter and colder with more co2 and less co2
All scientists that know what they are talking about accept that its been both hotter and colder before, But what is you point?
They would not have been good times for human civilisation (had we existed as we do today), and those conditions would destroy society as we know it. So if we are doing something that is pushing the chemistry of our atmosphere to a situation that would trigger bad conditions like that for us, we should probably refrain from doing that shouldn't we?
Why would you want to just charge full bore into a situation that makes human life as we know it very hard, if there is ways we can avoid it?
1. yeah, that is true, a lot of people do think that way.1. You made the point that people think just because it has never happened before it will never happen now.
2. I made the point that even when it Has happened before, if people do not like the story, they will not accept that it could happen now.
3. As you said, it is like a flaw in the human psyche that we close our minds to events that we don't want to know about

You understand they are actually removing the sea wall equivalent of your own project?Looking at the website.
Massive $500 mil funding from state government who will get back $800 million in carbon contracts. So a financial win for them there.
Helps upstream for the flood impacts but as you say will lead to more flooding within the basin and destruction of farmland.
Also saves on costly infrastructure like walls and dykes.
And finally helps biodiversity and creates a tourism hotspot which obviously makes money also.
They are making a bomb so need to give compensation to the farmers affected. They say the farmers can use their land for different purposes but I fully understand their unhappiness as plenty of risk.
Thanks, interesting.

Which sea wall are they removing? You understand they are actually removing the sea wall equivalent of your own project?
They are doing anti mitigation:
If climate warming was to be created by CO2 (it is not but basic science is not a forte in 2024), only the most lunatics would believe it could be abated to the point of not having to at least take basic protective measure, here under the guise of..i do not what..we destroy our economic food source and fresh water resources.
Destruction of fresh water access and food production is actually becoming a mantra lately.
I expect another WEF scare campaign on these water items, as for food, engineered shortage is on its way..
But I am a complotist, like Covid, mask luck of efficiency...etc
Australia is now seeing Apartment blocks as the future of housing inside the major metropolitan area. Unfortunately there are two very substantial problems hurting apartment buyers
1) Widespread poor quality builds that are costing owners a fortune to remediate
2) A Strata Title Management system that has been rorted by professional managers and costing owners far more than is necessary.
The ABC blew the whistle on the management of Strata Titles a couple of weeks ago. They then invited the public to forward evidnece of problems they are facing. The response has been overwhelming.
This story is worth reading in full. I have cited a small portion.
Exorbitant fees and undisclosed kickbacks: Inside the poorly regulated strata management industry
......Evidence of the trouble is in the deluge of responses received by the ABC thus far.
In the less than two weeks since we published our findings about Netstrata, we have received more than 1,000 separate reports about suspect activities by a wide sweep of strata management companies. Practically all of the complaints appear to be credible and well-documented. Several have been lodged by people with intimate knowledge of how the industry operates.
Some of the experiences being described are simply dreadful. Extraordinary self-dealing by strata management companies, using subsidiary and associate outfits in defiance of the wishes of their owners corporations. Refusals of strata managers to abide by a termination of their contract and their ongoing extraction of management fees. The failure to return the assets and records of buildings, and the disappearance of trust funds. Police having to be called to AGM meetings.
Most concerning, perhaps, are the persistent reports that some strata managers have protected property developers from building defect warranty claims. What is being alleged is an arrangement by which a strata management firm is appointed to oversee a new building while the developer still owns a sufficient number of units in the complex to control the owners' corporation — the strata manager gains a lucrative new building management contract, and, in return, it dissuades owners from lodging claims against the builder.
Many people are also deeply upset by the ABC’s revelations concerning strata insurance.
We discovered Netstrata had been using a wholly-owned subsidiary to charge insurance broking fees at inflated rates. These fees had not been routinely disclosed to owners but had reached as high as 64 per cent of the base premium, when brokers would commonly charge between 5 and 15 per cent, and sometimes 20 per cent.
We asked for stories about strata management. The deluge of responses describes an industry rife with suspect practices
Many strata managers know that in the long absence of proper regulation by government, the industry has become addicted to the routine exploitation of apartment owners and the easy profits that flow as a result.www.abc.net.au
Knobby had a project where they built a sea wall for risk mgt.Which sea wall are they removing?
Hey, follow the money. You understand they are actually removing the sea wall equivalent of your own project?

I watched the video, it sounds like they aren’t removing the gates, the gates are just deteriorating because the sugar cane farms are gone, it sounds like they are on private land.Knobby had a project where they built a sea wall for risk mgt.
Which is good project management
Here in sunny coast , we are removing tidal gates, letting sea surges flood land, and pretending it prevents floods rol..
This same council built a solar farm in flooding land which was left unconnected for years due to said flooding.
I pay rates there .....
