Which stocks are the winners and losers?
And stop toying with power bill.if you want widespread, just add a tax refund of $300 to everyone or via Centrelink as everyone has a Medicare card...@UMike So far, the biggest loser has to be the Federal Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, with the $300 power bill subsidy that goes to the power companies, who then will drip feed that money to the consumers.
It is blatantly obvious that it should be means tested.
What need would the exceedingly wealthy in this country have a need for a subsidy on their power bill.

I understand, but it IS a bit sad that thé people in hostels, renting a shed or a room at the back if not living in cars and camping in parks..there are numerous here get nothing..they are most often working poor so still slugged by taxes...By reducing the retail price of electricity by $300 that feeds into a lower CPI and also meets a political promise to reduce electricity costs by at least $275. Plus by paying it on electricity accounts it's one payment per household.
If they paid it to individuals then it would (1) cost more and (2) doesn't feed into lowering the CPI calculation. The latter bit being the key I expect.
