Resisting Climate Hysteria

Nope more like people that cannot / refuse understand basic statistics / trends / science

The clinical description is Disavowal

Denial or abnegation is a psychological defense mechanism postulated by psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence.

This is going to be us in a few years.

Two days ago, the new centre-right Swedish government announced an energy policy U-turn. You won’t read much about it because the media’s confirmation bias means it mostly reports only “news” to reinforce climate alarmism. And the nature of Swedish politics – consensual, with multi-party coalitions – means decisions don’t always stick or mean as much as they seem.

Still, the government’s announcement that it was ditching Sweden’s long-legislated plans for 100 per cent renewable energy by 2040 because the country needed “a stable energy system” is a significant blow to the hitherto unchallenged march to renewables, at least among Western nations.

In a statement, Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson said wind and solar were too “unstable” to meet a modern economy’s 24/7 energy requirements. Although the government still wants a “clean” energy system, this no longer will be based on renewables but on the nuclear power that currently provides about 30 per cent of Sweden’s total electricity.

“We need more electricity production, we need clean electricity and we need a stable energy system,” she said, adding: “In substantial industrialised economies … only a gas to nuclear pathway is viable to remain industrialised and competitive.”

You can only imagine the teeth-gnashing hysteria of Swedish child climate activist Greta Thunberg at this announcement, can’t you?

Meanwhile, China marches on and will overtake the US in a couple of years for cumulative CO2 emissions with the UN giving them a free pass till 2060. Really, if the World is going to implode if we don't stop GHG emissions by 2030, we're dead already.

? So easy to catch Climate Clowns.

But seriously, the amount of deadlines and predictions coming from the catastophist camp that have failed and failed and failed is becoming pretty embarrassing. When are the alarmists going to admit that they've got it all wrong?

On Tuesday morning in the swan valley, there was ice in the water troughs and the hoses were frozen.

The Wagyl must've been freezing @farmerge
Same for us up here to Wanye.
Didn't notice any movement in the creeks on the farm, perhaps the wagyl is in hibernation.

They won't Sean
Making too much money from the blind to deaf who believe all this rubblish.

Ah indeed. Your not dead yet are you Sean ? The world is not a smoking ruin yet ? The oceans haven't boiled and turned everything into a toxic soup (yet) !!

So Climate Change "has" to be a fail - or perhaps failing that, it is now so far progressed " and anyway the Chinese /Indians /anyone else are causing all the pollution" we may as well just ignore it and live our last days to the full.? Or perhaps both depending on which side of your mouth your talking through ?

Do you I reckon I have got all the dribble you spilled on your bib Sean ?

Regarding that choice piece of climate denialism you quoted ? How old ! How unbelievably tropeish. I reckon I could find that little comic gems brothers, sisters, parents and grandparents in every year for the past 30 years when a cold snap has happened somewhere (anywhere in fact) and the resident climate denier is banging the drum on how its all fake. Just so xxxxing predictable. But of course its just catnip for those who are so willfully ignorant. Take a deep, deep bow Sean. You deserve the recognition mate.

And what else is happening across the globe when Victoria has a cold snap ? Perhaps a few indications that climate heating reality is marching on with no regard for the sensibilities of the CC offended.

Interesting article in Reuters highlighting the challenges with the World reducing emissions in order to stop the ocean's boiling.

Asia is building hundreds of coal plants replacing any reductions in the developed World, plus more. Why is the UN standing back and watching this go on when they are so sure this is the greatest threat to humanity? Why are there no protests in front of the Chinese or Indian embassies?

Across India, 281 coal plants are operating and beyond the 28 being built another 23 are in pre-construction phases, GEM data show.

These numbers are dwarfed by China, the top global coal miner, consumer and emitter, whose leader, President Xi Jinping, is not expected to attend COP26. More than 1,000 coal plants are in operation, almost 240 planned or already under construction.

Together, coal plants in the world's second-largest economy will emit 170 billion tonnes of carbon in their lifetime - more than all global CO2 emissions between 2016 and 2020, BP data show.

And our output which is to be lowered is going to make a difference !!!!!!

One of the many unelected climate alarmists who has zero quals in climate science, or any other kind of science, is now a world leader.

Greta does not confuse weather with climate like you do!

On topic, @Sean K has never been good at analysis, so here's the counter to his chart on China's CO2 emissions, which are unremarkable given its population and industrialisation.
Cumulative carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels and industry worldwide from 1750 to 2021, by income group (in billion metric tons):

In fact, looking more closely at income we find the 1% club contributing about 15% of annual global emissions:

I have consistently pointed out the false narrative of many who ignore the real culprit in CO2 being based on per capita emissions.

Funny how when the weather is hot or really wet, its climate change, but when the weather is cold, or does not support the climate models its just weather.

I have consistently pointed out the false narrative of many who ignore the real culprit in CO2 being based on per capita emissions.
And others have consistently pointed out that the CO2 molecules have no idea where they came from.
Whether its from a rich country or a poor country it is immaterial.
If CO2 is as climatically existentialist as you and others maintain, it matters little where it is from.
Classic straw man argument, Rob.

The last stage of Climate denialism.

It's too late. We can't do anything. Don't worry.

Having heard and seen plenty on the issue, a few observations:

Technical people, both the designers and the doers, are up to the challenge and it is indeed solvable.

Business has some difficulties but ultimately there are fixes for them.

The fossil fuel industry itself acknowledges the problem. It's freely stated even in operations manuals that climate change is a known and credible risk.

That it's not solved is down to two things - politics and religion getting in the way. To the point that there are very, very few technical people still engaging in any sort of public discussion on the subject. One by one almost all have walked away, seeing it as futile. Not because the problem can't be fixed, but because there's too many silly games and obstacles.

The internet as we know it today ultimately happened because the geeks ran wild and investors threw money at them. There's a lesson in that. :2twocents

Interesting...
I suppose the question in this thread and ASF is

"If indeed CC is a serious problem why are so many people absolutely adamant that it is overrated, over blown or nowhere near as important as almost anything else ? "

Also wondering why you suggest religion is getting in the way of effective recognition and action on the problem ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Re the Fossil Fuel industry. Yep their manuals may state that Climate Change is a known and credible risk. That doesn't stop them however from going full steam ahead with exploiting oil gas and coal reserves that relentlessly add to the problem each year. So the Titantic goes full steam ahead into the known and credible risk of the icefield.

Same reason all and sundry now believe a woman can have a c0ck.

Politics and mandated beliefs.
