October 2024 Stock Competition Entries!

I think its time the authorities in charge here made a rule that says a member/player may not choose the same stock more than twice in a year.
leads to more variety.

Do you mean the stock or the member? By my reckoning CVN is the most tipped stock in the comp and not by the same member each month @Ferret who shall remain nameless.

I just wish it would move up in price seeing as its so liked in the comp.

I mean the member.
Its a sign of not taking the magnificent competition seriously enough, just picking the same stock.

I very rarely invest in my picks. Whenever I used to they ended up last and I lost $. I do enjoy the comp but most of my picks are under 10c. I rarely repeat except for CVN there for a while back, hoping it would go ballistic. And then it did but I'd picked something else from memory !!. And now its back down a fair bit !! I understand how you feel but must admit it doesn't bother me. I'll watch for it from now on.

Front another perspective it seems that only, roughly/approx. thirty of us enter the comp. on a regular basis. I'll happily stand corrected on that figure.

Thus, if more members entered the comp, there'd be more variety too.

to me it's just the luck of the 1 month period... get a cap raise and it sinks, get good news and a stock may run.

It all depends if the 4 week window is kind.

Now LRV,
- tipped in April , was doing really well till last few days and it dropped off
- tipped in June at 9.5c then hit 12c on last day to win 🏆
- thought about Aug ... from 11c to 40c a winner but not for me
- October .. also doing very well to date with 4 days to go.

Alas. :(

Participation in these tipping comps is a free lunch.

--- there's no downside and you learn from your and others' performance.

the Newcomers thread amuses me ... " hi, I'm @alfabloke and I'm going to start trading and shoot the lights out ".

Never see most of them again. Probably too embarrassed .

Survivorship bias would be a point in common for most ongoing entrants.

I don't like too many rules, and if someone wants to pick the same stock, I think that should be a fair enough choice to allow.

Incidentally, I won second place last month, considered choosing the same stock again this month but decided it didn't feel right, so at the last minute chose a random speccy I don't have any interest in (and I said as much when I did my obligatory post). If I'd chosen my preferred stock again, which I like and am holding, I'd have given a meaningful description and update, and as it turns out I'd currently be in first place and a strong contender for the win (as a holder of the stock I won't cry or identify as a victim).

It's not like someone is going to win every month by choosing the same stock. I think seeing some people choose the same stock repeatedly, others constantly moving, some usually moving then sticking to a stock for a while, etc etc, is part of the variety we can enjoy. Enforced variety is not usually a good type of variety, and often kills off forms of genuine/authentic variety.

I'll post all those in positive territory.

@BossMan. and @craigj have the number 1 and 2 spot. It was a bit lonely for me at the top for a little while there but the market decides. @Sean K 's silver pick seems to be picking up today and silver etf's are quite popular on o'seas markets.

@finicky @farmerge @Dona Ferentes and @Craton are bunched within placing distance while the other 7 will need some impressive gains to win.

All in all a tighter competition than it appeared yesterday evening. To the winner the spoils with just one day to go.
