NCM - Newcrest Mining

I’m not sure why Twiggy is chasing gold, it doesn’t really fit his investment profile. Maybe Greatland have other land prospective for copper and nickel…

Makes things a little more complicated for NCM with Havieron but not much. Will still replace feed at the Telfer mill.

I wonder if they’ll regret not picking up the extra 5% when on offer.

You mentioned gold was not Twiggy's strong area.
But he bought RMWilliams and cattle farm too. Vertical integration.
Green Energy and Future Energy.
Twiggy is a charisma in turning dirt into gold - paydirt.

Yes, seems to be venturing into all sorts. Gina is also. I suppose you have to do something with a few lazy billion laying about in the piggy bank apart from saving the planet and sponsoring netball teams and the like.

I don't get it, Greatland have already done a couple of MREs for Haveiron, what's he mean by 'maiden MRE'. Is that an old report?

From their 22 Annual Report.

Good morning
rcw1 is participating in the Unofficial Full CY 2023 Stock Tipping Competition ... NCM is the third stock of the four chosen.

Why so:

An interesting beast is the gold and copper explorer and miner, NCM. Made rcw1 angry on a couple of occasions past couple years.
However, believe this company is best placed to pocket coin with good gold and copper prices during the 2023 calendar year, moreover, has an ability to raise export volumes to outweigh lower prices. Plenty of opportunity for SP to move back towards that $30 mark.
Assumptions only.

Kind regards
rcw1

One of my picks too in the 2023 tipping comp.
I believe this year might be the one where we see gold consistently over US$2k.
NCM will be my banker in the comp I hope to see it provide at least a 50% gain.

Newcrest Mining digs in for M&A talks, calls in advisers

Feb 5, 2023 – 2.13pm

Australia’s biggest gold miner, Newcrest Mining, is in the crosshairs of a major global producer, with talks under way to fold the $20 billion Australian company into a North American counterpart.

It is understood Newcrest’s board has received an early-stage approach to buy the group, and has called in financial and legal advisers to help assess whether the proposal would be in shareholders’ interests.

Toronto-based Barrick Gold and US-based Newmont Corporation, both of which have long associations with gold mining in Australia, and Canada’s Agnico Eagle Mines, are the most logical suitors.

Wow! I thought NCM may have been on the hunt, not the other way around. Even though gold tanked on Friday this sort of news should be good for NCM.

I would really prefer NCM to stay Australian though. They should have bought DEG a year ago. Or even EVN or NST. I know they’ve been bedding down the Canadian things and managing PNG closely, but it’s a beast that should have the capacity for multitasking.

I agree with you @Sean K .. am thinking perhaps we'll see a pre-market NCM announcement tomorrow morning !?

Newmont’s offer raises a lot of questions for me.

Why make the offer now.

Why not back in Sept or Oct 2022 when the SP was wobbling around the $17.00 area.

An offer lodged back then would prob have been 25% to 30% lower than the current 0.38 bid.

Newmont (IMO) realise they must act now B4 the Gold Price Surges (as most pundits are predicting).

Let’s hope the NCM Board know how to play this game – IMO a reasonable offer for the NCM Board to look at would be closer to closer to a 0.70+ bid.

NCM are, pardon the pun, “Sitting on a Gold Mine”, and Newmont obviously realise that.

Back on 4/2/23 "15 Trading View Analysts" had a Target Price of $29.70 - and that is considered very conservative.
So with the normal Argy-Bargy that the NCM Board must employ, they should be looking @ $35-00+ - and thats just a quick Rule of Thumb on my behalf.
