Not sure if any of you have talked about this show yet (been away from forum lately) but I thought I would post this up.

Lateline business had its first show on monday (14th) and is on every night during the week. It starts at 11:10pm and goes for half an hour, I belive they have an extended version on friday to cover the whole week.

If your into shares then you will enjoy this show. I recall people on here talking about the need for a more in depth picture of the market on the news instead of the 2 mins (if that  ) that it currently gets on ten, seven, nine news etc. Well this is your answer. Seven didnt even have the gold price up the other day

They interview CEO's, take closer looks at particular stocks, show you what announcements are due the following day, aswell as the headlines of the leading financial news papers for the following day (thats right, tomorrows news today! :D ), give you up to date gold, oil, dollar etc prices and much more... well worth the look. ;) ;)

cheers

ABC had it 6:30 to 7:00 am or was it 6:00 to 6:30, and it was pulled off the air after less than 6 months.

Possibly this time slot will suit Australian US traders, as regular income earners, slowly go to bed at that time of the evening.

On the other hand it might be popular, especially that night time is more emotional according to specialists and Aztecs used to make important decisions twice, once during the day and second at night.

Wander if it was cause for their demise.

I watched it last night and it was a good market wrap-up.

But I get Ord Minnett daily market wrap emailed to me (free service), I use Westpac Broking which keeps me informed of all my share movements (free service), I log into the ASX site for announcements and I get FN Arena sending me daily emails (free). Plus there is the 7:00pm news. Then "The Australian" gets delivered early the next day.

How many times can you be told the market rose 4.6points, before you lose interest?

I like the show. Similar to sky business report on pay tv.

Its good for those pple who stay up late, or for those that get home late.

I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds like a clone of "Business Sunday" also on ABC

A bit of online research shows that:

  • the show is repeated on ABC2 Digital at 7:05 am the next morning (for those with a digital set top box, or digital TV tuner card in their computer); and
  • all the program's information is available on the ABC's web site here. They have transcripts of all the segments, as well as downloadable "vodcasts".
So no excuses for missing it!

Cheers, Staybaker. :)

i saw bits of it on monday night. i think it is well worth watching despite being on a bit later in the evening. i don't have sky business news or subscribe to any of the market wrapup report videos and think that lateline could turn out to be a great program.

hopefully, they can continue to attract well known CEOs, MDs, guest market moniters etc

Was watching this on Tuesday night and they were talking about the important data out of the US, yes it was important but it was released 20mins before the program started, surely they could have provided it even at the end of the program.
At least they tried to cover the CPI stuff last night

Also maybe the ticker could cover top 100 or 200, they have the time

(This wasn't exactly on Lateline Business but was on Lateline normal news program on Friday night.)

It was interesting to hear that a team of psychologists in America had found that companies with easier to pronounce names performed better. In the many companies studied, those with simpler names significantly outperformed their difficult to pronounce rivals in the days after listing on the sharemarket! The reporter said this was part of the growing field of study of behavioural finance.

cheers,
