Rudd unaware of 'pressure' on Scrymgour

Federal Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd says he is not aware of any efforts by Federal Labor to push a Northern Territory minister into recanting on a speech that attacked the Indigenous intervention.
Territory Child Protection Minister Marion Scrymgour yesterday admitted that some of her speech last week describing the intervention as a new form of 'McCarthyism' was over the top.
Indigenous Affairs Minister Mal Brough called on Mr Rudd to explain exactly where he stands on the issue.
Mr Rudd says he continues to support the intervention but has not heard of any pressure being put on Ms Scrymgour.
"I'm unaware of any such communication," he said.
"I was asked a question the other day about what I thought about her remarks and I was very blunt in my response.
"I said I defended the intervention. I continue to defend the intervention. I know it's controversial. Why she's made statements of a different type today, I do not know."
Mr Rudd says his speech marking the 40th anniversary of the 1967 referendum in May laid-out Federal Labor's agenda for Indigenous affairs, before the intervention was announced in June.
"What you have detailed in that speech is a program of some $260 million-plus which details a series of health programs, education programs and other programs to close that gap within a fixed timeframe," he said.
"I'd say therein lies our core view of our responsibility and our commitment to Indigenous Australia."
well I agree with Julia that if Mal Brough is so keen about helping the Abs, he should become Police Minister in Qld and do something about manning the various police stations there with good police.I guess if it was unpopular policy it must be bad policy and Brough had it coming.
I am sure everything will now be fixed with ALP at both levels of government.
More importantly, when are the Troops leaving Iraq.
Goodness, Numbercruncher, by tomorrow he'll probably be walking on water! My new hero already proving to be good to his word (smashing the coalition into tiny pieces like a sledge hammer hitting a crystal vase was just a bonus)

Unions won't rule Labor: Business Council
Posted Sun Nov 25, 2007 11:41am AEDT
The president of the Business Council of Australia, Greig Gailey, says he is not worried about the role unions will play under the new Labor government.
Kevin Rudd last night led the Australian Labor Party to an emphatic victory last night, turning a 16-seat deficit into a majority of about 22 seats, depending on the final outcomes in a handful of electorates.
Speaking on the ABC's Inside Business program, Mr Gailey says unions have an important role to play in society, and the business community will look to cooperate with them.
He says he is not worried that unions will play a disproportionate role in dictating business policy in Australia.
"If you listened to Kevin Rudd last night, that's not the impression you would have got," he said.

Now your turn Numbercruncher....did you hear Paul Keating on ABC radio yesterday? What did you think of that effort? That could be a new thread in itself. Isn't he the most bitter, pathetic, tormented and dillusional soul that has been in Australian politics? Everything revolves the Keating years!!! He even got a plug in about how his win over Hewson was more impressive than Rudds over Howards!!!
Duckman
So what about WA?no water solution
