Is it a good time to invest in ETF index funds?

(Bloomberg) -- MSCI Inc. is eliminating Russian equities from the firm’s widely-tracked emerging-markets index, cutting the stocks off from a large segment of the investment-fund industry as penalties mount over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“During the consultation, MSCI received feedback from a large number of global market participants, including asset owners, asset managers, broker dealers, and exchanges with an overwhelming majority confirming that the Russian equity market is currently uninvestable and that Russian securities should be removed from the MSCI Emerging Markets Indexes,” MSCI said in a statement on Wednesday.

The decision will be implemented in one step across all MSCI Indexes as of the close of March 9, according to the statement.

In general considering a long time line, indexes were cheaper 3 months ago, 12 months ago and 2 years ago, PE ratios are crazy high now, correction territory high. Is it a good time to invest in index funds? a better question is - will there be a better time to invest in index funds over the next 2 years? VidMateMomix

From an AFR article.

Edit: I should also point out that these above average returns only happen occasionally when the economic conditions are favourable. Prices can go through significant draw downs (>20%) when the sector is out of favour. You can see this in the top 5 losers for the last year.

You'd think that the solar and hydrogen sectors would be the sectors to be in with the demand for renewable energy. Not so, at the moment. Clearly, the economics aren't promising atm.

These ETFs make it much easier to monitor all of the sectors. Keep a list and look through them regularly.

a ( late ) welcome to ASF

will there be a better time ??

i think YES for new entrants , maybe even for those who bought three and five years back

remember index ETFs are not apples v apples there is some survivor bias involved

return on investment might be very shaky in the next two years though as companies held ( in the baskets ) struggle to reduce debt and try to stay profitable
