VBTC - VanEck Bitcoin ETF

Our decision as traders and investors in relation to entities such as VBTC should not be founded on whether or not we believe BTC to be a valuable currency nor a pie in the sky brainfart given oxygen. It should solely be based on whether we believe the market will trade BTC in some volume and in what direction.

As a BTC play; I feel it's a betrayal to choose this in a Stock Picking comp but the volatility fits right in.

My guess is there's more momentum to come from the Me-Too creation of Strategic BTC Reserves by various nations just in case which will require BTC buying alongside companies following the MSTR strategy of holding BTC as their corporate Treasuries.

Add to this the crypto forward US President and the wariness of fiat inflation ...

BTC is an interesting investment. How much should one have in it as a proportion of total investing capital. I've added some of the VBTC to my Super Fund and figure it is about 2.5 % of my portfolio.

I believe 5% would be an adequate amount to hold, no more for me.

It's the unknown unknowns one has to look for imo with something like BTC. Trump could cark it on a burger going down the wrong way, some incel could hack his way in to the worldwide cache of BTC and destroy it, another Bankman-Fried episode could occur. All those sorts of things.

On the other hand it could go to $1000. All unknown unknowns.

Interesting.

It's very interesting GG. It could go to a gazillion, or an AI bot could hack it and create one single coin from nothing and it's worth nothing. I understand blockchain, but I don't know what AI is going to do.

I was worried about the hacking thing as well. The bigger threat is probably legislation. But the returns year on year are way too good. Next dip (if we get one) I'll probably dump a large portion of my portfolio into bitcoin again.

It's funny that this was the long play all along.

One of my tips for the 2025 Stock tipping comp. I did invest a small amount in VBTC to follow it. With Trump becoming president shortly anything could happen with bit coin, so worth holding purely as a momentum trade. I did say I would never buy any, but encouragement from my son, and an ASX listed ETF reduces some of the issues I have with bitcoin. Still has no real value and is not suitable as an alternative currency, but someone always seem to be willing to pay more. One of the ABC finance dudes called it " a bigger fool" will buy your bitcoin for more.
