Is Global Warming becoming unstoppable?

Well people could have had important places to be, ambulances may have been held up, as you say angering people does nothing for their case.

Just highlights their lack of consideration for other people, while trying to highlight other people's lack of consideration regarding climate change, just another example of entitlement syndrome IMO.
There is also PETA going into a steak restaurant and abusing patrons, , extremists attacking trans etc.

They aren't looking for solutions, they are looking to create a stir and get their thrills and to get stories to tell and bond with friends.
I consider it selfish behaviour.

2 of them got 21 days jail each..The other is going to court.
Coco has a,rap sheet as long as your arm including doing a Sydney Harbor Bridge blockage.
I think it should be a year next time.

I think Singapore has a good solution to these types of idiots.

Whimps.

I was thinking more in terms of their public floggings for a certain offences.
And just for clarity, I fully support the right to free speech and for them to broadcast their message (even if I think they are absolute morons,).

Where I draw the line is in disrupting the flow of traffic and Commerce.

Here I am talking about the classic hierarchy of liberties. I absolutely support liberty of thought and speech so long is it does not impinge on the liberties of others.

In this example there is a clear transgression of such.

They should be flogged.

Kind of what I was alluding to, it could have been a whole lot worse.
Your partner, your child might be dying in that 25km traffic jam and I actually do know what that feels like.
It was an absolutely selfish, entitled, disgusting display of arrogance and ignorance.
It's certainly hard to work out how it furthered their cause, just makes everyone think they are morons, without respect for anyone else.

Hence my comments above.
My apologies, I just read the article and posted without reading, you are spot on.
I just see red when I remember being in a situation that if someone held me up from getting where I needed to go, it would have been ugly for them.

Very courageous their Pete...;)

The IEA (International Energy Agency) says that unless we make far reaching changes to energy supplies within the next 5 years Global Warming will spiral out of control. In particular we have to stop the next proliferation of coal fired power stations that are planned for India China and anywhere else.

The Age offered an overview of the IEA report.

Maybe this is the real investment direction we need to make in the next 20 years. :2twocents

I began this thread in 2011 with this post. In 2024 this is the state of our Global Climate.

There's an ominous new significance to the phrase 'off the charts', according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), with 2023 breaking every single climate indicator.

And this is just one of the consequences of accelerated increase in temperatures.

West Africa heatwave was supercharged by climate crisis, study finds

High temperatures in February affected millions of people and put further pressure on chocolate prices

A searing heatwave that struck west Africa in February was made 4C hotter and 10 times more likely by human-caused global heating, a study has found.

The heat affected millions of people but the number of early deaths or cases of illness are unknown, due to a lack of reporting.

The region is the world’s largest exporter of cocoa, and farmers said the heat weakened their trees, which were already damaged from extreme rainfall in December. Prices for cocoa, the key ingredient in chocolate, have soared in recent years due to climate-related damage to the crops, and the latest heatwave adds further pressure.

..... The most severe heat occurred from 11 to 15 February, with temperatures peaking above 40C and averaging 36C. Humidity was also high, making it harder for people to cool down by sweating. The heat index, a measure combining temperature and humidity to reflect how heat feels, was 50C. “That is very dangerous for the human body,” said Izidine Pinto, of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute.

....Farmers in Ivory Coast said in February that the high temperatures and lack of rain were damaging their crops. In March, major cocoa plants there and in Ghana stopped or reduced processing because they could not afford to buy the beans, Reuters reported. The price of cocoa beans has risen to an unprecedented high of more than $8,000 a tonne, more than three times the price in March 2020.

Farther to above - 15 years ago there was much criticism of the models being wrong. well they are still wrong. temperatures are rising faster than predicted. Something is missing.
