Is Global Warming becoming unstoppable?

I am surprised that a Cat 4 Huricane would be the worst ever, most places experience cat 5 every now and then

I took off from Darwin airport on a commercial flight during in a cat 4 storm so not sure how a cat 4 is such a problem.

I asked are we flying in this and they said Yes, we only stop when it is a Cat 5
Yea, we get it worse. Poor Phillipines always seem to get hit hard. It was only the worst from coming in behind Florida.

I landed in Hong Kong on the tail end of a typhoon (after circling near Manila for 2 hours.). Much scarier landing 🛬 on a transverse runway than taking off🛫.

The media today is so over the top, my wife and I have been saying for the past 5 years that we now live in the age of superlatives
This is actually true. They keep using "Rain bomb" over nsw and its generally a light rain. It was just as bad if not worse in the 80s at points.

ML Ferguson has been struggling to rebuild her home in Anna Maria, Florida, after it was severely damaged last month by Helene, a powerful category four hurricane when it hit.

"This one is going to be way worse than Helene," she said on the phone while stalled in highway traffic out of the city.

"My car is totalled, we all were laid off of our job, and [my] belongings were ruined. After this storm hits, I will officially become homeless."

Governor Ron DeSantis said on Tuesday that Florida had prepared dozens of shelters outside of evacuation zones to help house residents left stranded in the wake of the "monster" storm.

Agreed it's increasing but note the chart isn't zero scaled.

From the lowest to the highest it's about a 4% increase. Not zero, but I reckon a good portion of people who see that chart won't notice that the scale runs from 2.06 to 2.14 with the highest reading a bit above that. :2twocents

Yep agree however the total amount of energy is enormous / trend is clear.... unfortunately, won't be reversed any time soon and will likely go exponential eventually at some point.

One factor of course that could delay this increasing is the melting of Greenland's glaciers :)

Hard to watch

Terrible. I recommend that everyone watch it. The sudden step change in ocean temperatures that has occured over the last 18 months is the most worrying recent event.
It is going to hurt.

The predicted world GDP drop and climate problems are the reason those billionaires are buying bolt holes in NZ and Alaska. 10 years.

Remember what happened in Antarctica last year?
I was hoping it would go back to normal and it was a freak event. I looked yesterday ... it hasn't.

It can still be an outlier move in temperatures, then there are the models that show glacier melt holding the fort for awhile after which its descent into hell.

But the last hurricane Milton that developed (US dodged a bullet) showed what the future could hold as its pattern confirmed models around ocean temperature and atmospheric moisture content feeding bigger storms.

Don't really rate the BOM forecasters but interesting to see how it pans out.

Australia facing one of the hottest summers on record, according to BOM prediction

Australia is facing one of the hottest summers on record according to the Bureau of Meteorology's (BOM) weather modelling, which tips well-above-average temperatures across the country.

The forecast for a scorching summer is largely due to ongoing high ocean temperatures surrounding Australia, a persistent feature that has plagued most of the globe since early last year.

The warm seas will not only raise air temperatures but also boost atmospheric moisture levels, swinging the odds to favour frequent storm outbreaks and above-average rain.

Our simmering oceans could also lead to the most active cyclone season in years, with the BOM expecting around 11 named storms in the Australian region, including an increased risk of severe (category three or above) systems.
