Interactive Brokers Troubleshooting

I just spoke to IB on the phone. Apparently the only way is to view your activity statement which is then broken down into the various headings such as; Interest Accruals, dividends, Trades etc.

I can't for the life of me figure out where the Data fee charges are.

I also can't figure out why the date range is only up to Dec 31?

It's a pain in the backside to figure out. :banghead:

My data fees are included in "other fees" in the cash report. You are able to set your own template with the various fields you wish, which I find to be very convenient. Don't forget to allow for time differences when looking at the date range available - given that there has only been 1 day's trading since 31/12/09 and USA is several hours behind us in timeframe I wouldn't expect to be able to view yesterday's statement yet.

Bizzare, Just looked at my cash report for Nov (december report says I have no data)

and I have no "Other fees"

All I have is;
Starting Cash
Commissions
Deposits
Net Trades (Purchase)
Ending Cash
Ending Settled Cash

Where's my ASX data fees hiding?

I'm sure you can understand how it would be very 'concise' to see at a glance if they listed your cash account like a bank statement with a chronological listing of Cr and Dr.

Then you'd know exactly what money was coming in and out at a glance rather than having to fish through all these reports to find out for yourself.

Does anyone find this a pain and I am wondering if there is a way to get around it.

With IB you can't buy unless the funds are listed under buying power or whatever it is.

You may have just closed a trade and you have to wait the the T + 3 days settlement. Where in complete contrast when you buy an open a position the funds are taken straight away. There is no T + 3 rule.

I am coming from a Commsec background where they do the T + 3 rule both ways.

Is there a way around this as I am finding I am missing opportunities by waiting for my money to show up.

I don't think I have this problem. As soon as I close a position, my funds + P&L are shown available straight away, none of this T+3 business.

Maybe it's got something to do with your account type, ie. Margin/Cash? (I'm on a portfolio margin account for reference)

Yeah I am using a Cash account.

Is there any extra fees or charges with the Margin account?

This from IB's website

Customers maintain account equity of USD 100,000 in order to use a portfolio margin account. Otherwise account restrictions will apply.

Might be a dumb question, but unexplained things annoy me. I had five positions hit their stops today, and therefore five trades. My trade summary printout shows that commission has only been charged on two of them, and nil comm for the other three. I've checked the trade info report via user management - and it shows comm on all five trades. I'm not about to complain about being given a few freebies - but wonder why? Has this happened to anyone else? I did note that the ones with nil commission were in the morning, and those that have been charged were after 2pm - were IB having a half-day sale today??

Yes TH, I guess I'll have to wait until I can view today's statement - I wonder if the trade summary through tws will alter to match if the commission is indeed charged. Have been using IB for about a year and haven't had this happen before. Guess I'll have to practice the patience.....

Yes noticed the same thing. If they don't rectify it, perfect. If they do, business as usual I guess.

What sort of CPU usage are people getting with TWS?

Mine is really slow lately, when I first log in and start it up it seems fine, then all of a sudden it starts surging, lagging and carrying on, makes it really hard to do anything. Anyone else have these sorts of problems?

Sam, i had those same issues until i maxed out my RAM. What do you have now for RAM?

CanOz

Hmm, yeah that's tons. What about hard drive space for virtual memory?

CanOz

I have a 1 Terabyte HD, Virtual Memory? I assume you're talking about the VM options under System Properties? Its got "Initial Size- 3500MB" and "Maximum Size- 4990". Its set on "Custom size". Sound right?

Well mine is on custom and set at 768mb, and i can open heaps of RT charts etc. with no worries now....I assume your processor is fast enough?

anyone else have any ideas? Have you cleared your cache out lately or deleted unused files?

I've put it back on System managed or whatever it is, rather than custom. Re-installed TWS and Java, de-fragmented HD, and it SEEMS to be going ok for now, still a bit slow sometimes, how do I clear cache etc?
