Interactive Brokers Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,

I have a query regarding funds transfer. On the instruction form I says to include IB account #, user name and account name, obviously there’s not enough space in the reference field in my banks online pay anyone facility so I did it at the branch.

I rang up IB and they said all info. is required and the bank told me that the online message field can't be altered.

I read here that it can be done online and I was just wondering how I can get around this issue.

Account name and account Number is what I have always used.

Sorry if it's been asked before, but I've just finished the account opening marathon and seeing double ;), a few questions to allay my concerns -

- to clarify, funding the account with $10k US or equiv =$16k AU (which the online process accepted as minimum)
- use Commonwealth bank online banking transfer using Account name and account Number only is acceptable ie the money get's transferred OK?
- IB's bank is Citi - how safe is it these day's, considering the state of the US company with the same name?

yep 16 ks Skippy. though you can take it out once its up and running. so they tell me.

Yeah as long as IB can link something it tends to show up within a day or two.

The Citi account is still an Oz bank. how save is that?
 
Is there? What am I missing? Or are you guys talking about logging onto webtrader?

MS are you logging in from the desktop or through the browser? It shows up on mine when logging in from the browser, but not the desktop version. But then I've had problems with IB today so it might just be being temperamental!

Ok. That probably explains it. I log in from the desktop. Everytime today I've tried to log in via the browser the login page refuses to show, so I can't even see what you guys are referring to.

MS - Here's the link "show all fields" circled in yellow. The second picture shows what happens when you click on it - but it doesn't seem have the choice of server.

Strange you can't log in from your browser. I have to give Fire Fox permission to run scripts - could that be an issue?

Paulchow2k - where do you change the server?

Thanks sails. Scripts are enabled and I approved the site certificate. No luck though, must be my browser (Opera). Maybe it's time I got Firefox.
 
market depth configuration
====================

In the configuration for market depth (under the level 2 section) you can customize a few things - like cummulative and average volumes.
However, if you remove stuff like that, It comes back again next time you logon. Most other settings seem to be saved once you apply he changes and save settings - but not these for some reason.
Am I missing something?
 
Guys, I think what paulchow2k was referring to appears when you click on 'Show All Fields', where you would get a new line that says Region, from there you choose Asia, Europe or America. From memory, this only became available in the last few updates, so if you can't find it, perhaps time to update to the latest TWS :p:

In addition, IB has previously advised when I inquired that the region field is simply for information, NOT to change your server. To change your server, you need to contact them via ticket, it's a server job thing that runs over the weekend to switch over. I have changed mine a few times when I first noticed it, however I was still getting the daily server disconnection at around the same time, hence my belief that it is indeed as IB has advised.

This may well have changed since I got the information, so please correct me if that indeed changes the server, cause that would be great!

EDIT: You can also get to the region field by going (once logged in) Configuration - General

I use IB user name and account number, it's always turned up in my IB account on the same day provided i initiated the transfer in the morning.

Paul, it's the latest version that automatically downloaded from IB. It's currently build 892.9b - 6th March. I think I do remember seeing "region" at some stage in there, but has obviously disappeared - so not sure why that would be.

I thought you could only get Oz data from the Asian region - can you get it from the other regions?

Thanks comrades, although one more Q - on the W-8BEN form (Part 1, 7) have you been putting your Aussie Tax File number there or not bothering too?

The proof of ID bit bothers me, about sending off drivers license and account details to some place in the USA. Must be OK, you lot seem happy with it?

No TFN.

No probs with ID. Pretty standard thing now I guess :(
