Australian (ASX) Stock Market Forum

Interactive Brokers Troubleshooting

hi folks,

haven't logged into this forum for quite some time but i'm starting to dip my toes into the trading waters again. I'm interested in trading the NYSE and NASDAQ through IB but I'm a little confused about the market depth information. I have subscribed to the bundled US stocks level 1. To get full market depth info for NYSE and NASDAQ do I need to subscribe to NASDAQ Total View and NYSE Open Book as well?

cheers
LL

is it me or the software/trading platform is a little non intuitive ???

i picked up metatrader4 in no time but i just do not seem to be able to understand IB's ???

Also, the confirmation of trades is a bit cumbersome too. Gosh, everything seems to be a bit foreign to me. No email confirmation of trades. No listing of trades executed, live.

It would need getting used to hmmmm .... i definitely love metatrader platform better but IB does not support .... hmmmmm

Hi Al,

What are you trading?,

All the things you mentioned are actually available, you may need to refer to the user's manual.

I've actually found TWS to be a joy to use.:)

Its definately different from the more "retail" type (for lack of a better word) platforms. Once you are accustomed to it though, i reckon its hard to go past for simplicity and ease of use. The charts suck.:2twocents But who needs them anyway, Amibroker works well with it.

Besides, the difference in brokerage is very advantageous for traders, and can mean that small postions are actually still worth trading.

The best trading platform i've used, out of the four that i have tried.

Cheers,

CanOz

Is anyone else finding the new formatting of the statements confusing? Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand the logic behind separating the trades section into Bought and Sold, it used to be real easy to find out what my entry and exit prices were now it's all mixed up :banghead:

Does anybody know where I can find a list of shortable US stocks?
What are the fees?

Thanks.

i found doing some of their webinars was beneficial in getting used to TWS.

i am trading aussie shares and forex ...

Hi all,

For those that trade cash forex via IB, how are you keeping track of your P&L for CGT purposes? AFAIK, IB only provides the final P&L, however does not give the total profit and total loss like they do with futures, hence one's unable to use that for CGT purposes where you have to calculate net gains, if any

At the moment I manually calculate these using the trades, however if anyone know of an easier way, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

With them having so many different types/features, what do you mean by cash I am wondering what other types apart from cash forex ??? What is the actual margin btw for each type ???

Thanks

Download a copy of NinjaTrader UnTimed Demo and you can have the charts send over from TWS. Much better looking.

Thanks Paul... you said demo so it means that I need to buy the software at some point right ? maybe I need to evaluate the demo to see if it is worth spending the dime on it.

How do you integrate TWS to Ninjatrader ? I have actually download but never installed it apparently on my deskstop lol :D

Maybe you could read the instructions :(

And its free if you don't want to trade through it.

LOL ... thanks. I have been learning a lot and sick of reading atm. From metatrader to IBFX to Interactive Brokers. I just want a short cut lol. I did google search though and I think I found some quick pointers. Sorry, just being a lazy ass :D.

Cool, I might just use if for charting and trade through IB. If I like it, I might buy it later.

Thanks

Anyone else unable to log into TWS this morning? I've tried logging into IB's webtrader as well and it's unable to connect. Iress with Man Fin is working fine and all other internet connections are fine.

G'Day,

No problems logging on at my end, ASX data was down for a little while but AOM and SFE OK,
All is working now.
