So I've heard the phrase "bulls make money, bears make money, and sheep get slaughtered" a few times on the forums.

Making money in this bull market is pretty straight forward, no problems there.

But what about if you think the price is going to fall? (not saying it will, not saying it won't, just would like to be prepared :) ) Is this were put options come into play? If so what do I need to know about these (ie brokerage, etc)?

I'm using etrade at the moment, but if you want to explain in general terms I'm sure I'll be able to work out how to do it on etrade.

Thanks!

Bear markets usually stimulate cheap takeovers. Arbitrage is the way to go in this environment, though you will need to keep a very keen eye, and not get sucked into rumours.

Only way to make money in the bear is to short a stock or buy a stock you :D think trading below their real value and wait for up turn, ie in a few years when the bull returns.
