Fire Season here in WA

Update: The Ponderosa unaffected and seems to be safe, but we are on the western edge of the red zone, so not getting too blase'.

How you going @farmerge ?

Just got back from the Red Hill Farm. Some burnt fencing but unable to access the area yet. Also 2 cut fences for bulldozer access. Wind is not easing up and appears to be swinging ESE and very gusty,

Our Western boundary is alongside the area. Watched the 2 big water bombers doing circles late yesterday afternoon waiting for permission to drop their loads of retardant and water.
So it's fine to look after a so-called sacred site, but the out of control fire in the meantime endangers lives, homes, sheds and property, and livestock.
I'm over the "cousins" "rights" at the moment.

My Mrs' thoughts on the matter:

$#@# ?!&// ¥€¢£ §∆÷π!!!!!!

Saw on the TV news tonight that the wild fire we are enduring at the moment, could be arson.
An empty house and some sheds lost so far.
I had a job this morning right at the base of the hill, the client lost some fencing both from the fire itself plus letting machinery through.

But around the area there "was" a fair bit of that plastic post and rail fencing... all melted in puddles on the ground.

Also, did a bit of a reconnoitre around the area. The fire actual got up the Susannah creek only about 150m from my place. We would have been in deep doo-doo if it got much further.

Yeah Wayne that plastic fencing looks OK but it is really just crap.
Just got back from checking my fence damage, 3 x 30 metre cuts with one the wire cut hard on the star picket.
Told someone who thought he was important that I wasn't happy about the way the wire was cut.
Don't have a problem if its cut in the middle.
Might pay me to advertise the horse gates that I have here.

Latest info about how the fire started is a "campfire"
I still reckon it was someone cooking up some marron on the dam bank and then the wind got hold of the embers
The rest is a history lesson.

It was a total fire ban day too.

I also have some stories unrelated to the actual fire but with regards to evacuating horses... There are some absolute total a55holes out there.

Hi Farm and Wayne,
I remember a time.
WA was once the benchmark of broad area forest fuel management.
Bushfire headlines from WA - they were a rarity in the warmer months.
So sad..
@Logique2 there was a pretty big fire in this same area a few years ago.
The thing about this fire as in the past in the same area is there is a pretty steep sided valley starting in line with the beginning of my place but about 1k South.
There are fire breaks in there but only a fool and/or madman would attempt to go into that area with a loaded fire ute .
This valley then swings at almost 90 deg to head North then flatten out and begins the billy goat climb to the Brigadoon sub division.
Only way to fight a fire in this terrain is with aircraft.
It's a pity that the politicians didn't get off the well-fed rumps and allow the water bombers and heavy machinery to access the bushland that apparently controlled by the "cousins".
When I was talking to some of yellow brigade members who were parked on my Western Boundary on Tuesday afternoon, as to why nothing was happening, got told the hierarchy are negotiating with the "cousins" to enter the bushland.
Couldn't even spray water over the unkempt firebreak on their side.
Firebreak is now a 4+ metre highway.
No doubt the "cousins" will be seeking compensation for damage to whatever now it is cooked and roasted to bare earth.
This has really got up my left nostril.

@wayneL I'm still patrolling my Southern and Western boundaries a couple of times a day.
Local firies come and go during the day and night also.
Had a visitor traversing the farm as if he owned it, checking out the bovine herd.
Lucky for him, he was quicker off the mark than me at the time.
Have to leave the main gate unlocked so the place is open for all and sundry, until I catch them.
