FYI, if the problem is only for those of you outside of Australia, then you can use a VPN service to log in from an Australian server and IP even if you live overseas.

One example:
http://www.hidemyass.com/vpn/

It's extremely secure (in fact the purpose of VPNs is to provide a very secure point to point connection).

Today the site has finally become accessible again from overseas but the outage has cost me several thousand dollars.
Still no general apology or explanation from Etrade.
- no concern for clients just complete silence and arrogance.
I hope I can find a suitable alternative. From today I am starting to look for one.

Finally an apology from E*TRADE........ bit late after the event for all those affected.

You may have experienced issues accessing our website in recent weeks, particularly from overseas.

The performance of our website was impacted by external malicious activity in a denial of service attack. A denial of service attack is where millions of messages are sent to the website in an attempt to disrupt service. As a result, we took the necessary steps to protect our clients and ensure your data remained secure.

Immediate action was taken to restrict access from some overseas locations but given the nature of the incident we were restricted in what we could communicate with you at the time.

Importantly, at no stage was the security of the E*TRADE website breached.

While necessary, we understand our actions may have caused some frustration and we apologise for any inconvenience this caused.
