December 2022 Stock Competition Entries!

End of Week 4 in the December Monthly Comp and only a 2.5 trading days left (I think:)). XSO went down -1.22% but at the same time ASF Team's Average went down -3.55%.
Another bad week for us, thank god for @Sean K this week (up 17.42%) I'm glad he gave those shorts away:laugh:. While I'm here ..... thanks @Sean K for your Moderator's services, appreciated by all :xyxthumbs.

At the moment @TLS CKA 10.53% has 1st Place after a steady week :xyxthumbs from tear away leader @peter2 GCM 6.25% who fizzled out after being up nearly 70% at one stage  but is still there in 2nd Place!
@Muchado ADO 5.66% is just behind in 3rd Place with @MovingAverage BGL 4.09%, and @Buckfont ARX 1.86% just behind and are the only others ones that are in positive figures :(.

A bit of a fight going on for the wooden spoon/dusting duties this month., 5 involved.

Good luck next week and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you all enjoy the break :).

Thanks DF, and I'm sure thanks from everyone for the time and effort you and Pete have put into the monthly/yearly comps. It's been a great way to keep the community together. May you all short my picks next year and reap the benefits. Have a great Xmas.

not buy your tips that interest ( us ) as they near the bottom ??

that strategy with MY tips has only been partially successful this year , in the monthly comp.

but did much better ( or worse if you already held those companies at the start of the year ) and Joe has saved me for the embarrassment of a repeat performance in 2023

and yes thanks to those who helped keep the comps. running

( and only three more days of potential embarrassment left in 2022 )

Seems to me that the ASF group are below average
Very low below average Including ME

It only proves to me that the starting time Each Month is broken
As is the Starting time Each year

Who with only a little bit of Seamanship skills would set sail in the face of a storm days before the Start of a regatta
Let alone on a Friday night before the Dawn on Monday

Any experienced Man of the Sea would wait for The OPEN /Dawn before he would risk his ship, his family and his crew without the absolute latest data

I suppose we can all throw darts
I Guess?

It takes no effort

However
The Weekend is for Champions

Why can't we have a Monthly Competition that is not ONE MONTH and ONE Day
And
A Yearly Competition that is not ONE YEAR and One Day
BUT
Simply Start on the 1st of each Month on the OPEN PRICE at DAWN
and The Start of the Yearly Comp on the OPEN at DAWN

I know it makes sense and it will give us a better chance of beating the Average Yahoo who works with the latest of data

hmmm starting price ( first trade of the month or year ) vs. closing price ( last trading price of the previous period )

closing price is easier to administer it is set in print and easy to check up in hindsight , starting price is more interesting , there is some chance tips will face a trading halt/pause/suspension before the opening , a potential mismatch if Chi-x trades the stock before the ASX handles a transaction

i guess we would have to ask those dedicated folk running the comp. ( say, ) 25 picks to be priced and double checked within 30 mins after the opening bell and then published ASAP may not always be convenient

this monthly had it's twists and turns as it, was with ticker-code changes using the old protocol

i can see your logic Captain , but the task might be more difficult if all the boats don't reach the start line at the same time ( Joe for one has to bump the odd spammer and scammer as well )

@debtfree Trust my prediction for a wooden spoon has been reflected on my bet for the winning horse as well:)
I told you the below will happen. Btween now and 31st, other contenders for wooden spoon are to do lot of work to cras the market.

Update: @Miner you're safe for the night mate . Santa has taken the coal with him taking @TLS CKA down a few placings. @peter2 GCM races back to the lead.

Appears that Peter2 will be the winner of the December Comp unless his pick falls drastically. Unlike the Tail End Charlies, a 2 horse race for the wooden spoon. Perhaps a fourth prize could be considered for the last placed unfortunate.

Perhaps a fourth prize could be considered for the last placed..
But that would just encourage risk-taking.

Think of it this way: everyone aims for top 3 but somehow dusting duties are spectacularly allocated to one tipster. If we aimed for bottom place, then a world of options, 3rd, second or even 1st, could open up.

wow ! would that be a hotly contested prize , some months

Good evening Dona Why would anyone not try to come in the first 3. Going for broke to be last, well that would have to the all time loser. Just me pondering.
As this is the first time I have entered this comp I am happy where I will finish, hopefully on a strong note.

i used to try to win ( in a comp. elsewhere ) and was last more often than 1, 2 , and 3 ( combined )
so now i tip something i hope to buy ( more of ) in the month ( or year )

the rare wins boost my ego , the more frequent shabby results bulk up my portfolio ( my reputation is in tatters , but the portfolio is not travelling that badly )

Much the same for me. BRN has been on my trading/stash it away list since the Commsec days. I will only nominate a stock I am with or seriously going to trade. Not interested in the penny dreadfuls which may be the winner more often than not.

Divs what do you reckon Last posi a photo of a wooden spoon and a try harder next time certificate ????????

if i finished that badly last , i probably can't see the finishing post for all the stock i bought getting there

for example i tipped EVN ( last year ) in the yearly , and more than tripled the holding to get that negative outcome

SIG was a dull year and PWR got some extra cash injected

i already have some loser certificates ( the original ) Poseidon Nickel and Nylex ( Moulded Products ) i have them laminated as lessons/reminders

What I was trying to say was that, entering the comp, we all get one stab at 3 prizes and someone always comes last and frequently spectacularly so; then if your pick is for last then there is 3x the chance of winning a prize.

That is if you think markets are essentially random. And that's another discussion.
