CommSec ProTrader2 - problems & tips

Thanks for the advice/links Macca & SevenFX. Had to take a walk in the sun yesterday to preserve sanity after tussling with PT2 yesterday morn. Yet to download PT1 but that's the approach I will take.
I like the PT2 platform but frustrated by relative slowness on amending/placing trades post-upgrade (addition of CFD's maybe). This appears to be worse when mkt busy - which is a worry.

I have put up with most of the ProTrader 2 problems, but today it got worse with the watchlist not auto positioning - this problem, so far, is the most annoying.

Well, another new day and another new problem with PT2. Now the summary values for market depth are no longer dynamic and don't update. Gee ProTrader just keeps getting worse.

I have many problems with CommSec ProTrader2 as well.

But it usually goes away when i restarted my computer.

CommSec PT2 MACD

I am trying to get my head around the MACD indicator using the Professional Trader 2 Platform. When I add the new layer, the funny thing is that when the chart shows an up trend, the MACD crosses below 0, and when there is a down trend, the MACD crosses above 0... isn't it meant to be the other way around? What values should I be using for LONG, SHORT, M?

Thanks for any help, much appreciated!

If you click on the ? it provides an answer to all your questions.

Re: ComSec Pro

Hi Zengin

Answers to all of your questions can be found in the help menu for PTrader :D

SV - Surplus Volume - the volume left at the best price after the auction (market pre open and post close auction)

IAP - Indicative Auction Price - the ASX estimated opening price based on the current depth (again, market pre open and post close auction)

V - I would assume to be Volume?

Cheers

Re: ComSec Pro

I too have just installed pro trader. I don't seem to be able to find anywhere where it gives the % change in the all ordinaries as it does on the basic comsec platform.

Thanks

Re: ComSec Pro

So am I meant to study all that ,does it help me in any way for the next days trading , because I just had a look at it and it does not do anything even if you click on them except move all my watch list around.

Re: ComSec Pro

Dana22 - just make up a watchlist with all of the index codes that you want (XAO, XJO, XMJ etc)

Zengin - up to you if the pre/post auction is usefull and probably depends more on your trading style and timeframe. I find the IAP pre market open invaluable to identify stocks that are going to gap (up or down) on opening. But obviously during normal market hours it isn't used so just right click on the list and untick "Show Pre-Market Columns" and all of the IAP, SV etc columns will be gone.

Cheers

Right click and hit run as administrator...

Vista's new security settings mean any program that automatically updates itself must be done via the admin account.....

Cheers

Has anyone been having any problems with two or more intra day charts with Comsec Pro trader 2?

I am running it with Vista (all fine, after reading all the hints in this thread), and all appears to be working well.

Except for charting. If I have a chart updating with intraday info (say a chart for CBA), and I try to open another chart (intraday) for NAB, the NAB one does not update. NAB just sits there. If I try to modify any settings or add any layers etc, nothing changes. Later on in the day, opening the chart for NAB again will just show me the data that it showed earlier on. No updates.

Has anyone worked out how to have more than one intraday chart updating at the same time?

(I have tried all the settings I can see - including the load all data icon...it doesnt seem to help).

I think I have discovered why I could only have one chart. Vista. I took the transparent windows off the display, and also changed the scheme to Windows XP type.

Everything appears to be a lot better - I now have two intra day charts all updating.

However, there is still one problem - i can only seem to have two updating intra day charts at a time.

E.g. I have XJO and ANZ running and updating on an intra day chart. Everything is fine. At 11am, I tried to open a new chart for CBA. It shows the intra day data for CBA until 11am, but then there is no more updating on that chart. The other two charts do update.

If I come back later at 2pm (for example) and load the CBA intraday chart again, it only shows the data until 11am.

Any clues anyone?

Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone can tell me why I can't view charts in pro trader 2 at night?
I would have thought you could do this after hours at least.

Cheers:D

With PT2 on Vista, you'll have to follow these instructions to install .Net.

Silly, seeing that Vista platform should be up to date, whether .Net or Java.
