From the ABC site, doesn't this make you angry ?
Seems to be plenty of money around to throw at things that increase Rudds popularity but why hasnt this been fixed ? This is happening on a regular basis now.

Toddler dies from severe head injuries

A toddler from St Arnaud in north-west Victoria has died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries.

The two-year-old has been at the centre of an investigation into how she slipped through child protection services.
The girl had been in the Royal Children's Hospital for a few weeks, but died yesterday.

Her 26-year-old father was found dead at his mother's home a few weeks ago.

He had been due to face court in relation to his daughter's injuries.

At the time of the father's death, Victorian Child Services Commissioner Bernie Geary said a struggling system had failed the child.
Police say there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Stawell detectives are continuing to investigate the incident, as is the Department of Human Services.

There are many people out there with children who are unsuitable parents, poor nurturers through being drug affected, mentally ill, odd personalities and bad people.

Many children have step, and half siblings, cope with parents in 3 or six relationships and are cared for in the absence of their parents by seedy proxies.

No system will keep on top of it all.

We need someone like Tony Abbott to bring some order to all this nonsense of parental rights trumping their responsibilities.

alcohol and drugs play a huge role in the interaction of domestic violence and death by domestic violence

we are all deeply disturbed by these stories mr burns, but what lingers as the causes, mental illnesses, drugs, alcohol are very much needing our attention.

the story is tragic and will be repeated. the level of funding given towards the issues that cause these problems and can assist people before these situations arise is unfortunately dwindling.

Yes Mr. Burns it makes my blood boil actually.
Without going too deeply into it, I have been personally involved with the Child Protection Authorities and can tell you where I see the systemic problems.
When a relationship goes wrong for whatever the reason, cheap point scoring and lies become the modus operandi of the supposed agrieved party.
As part of this trend, the Child Protection Authorities are now being 'used' to 'get back' at the custodial parent by recieving fallacious complaints which have to be investigated thereby using up vital resources. It has become a little like 'the boy who cried wolf'.
I am not for one minute condoning or making excuses for tragedies like your example, but simply point out that our society is moving towards the USA mindset of litigate...Litigate! We are bombarded with a plethora of media suggesting that we use all available tools to 'get what we deserve' and that mindset unfortunately has led to genuinely concerned authorities being used as part of the process to establish an impression of the opposite party (throw enough mud and some of it is bound to stick).

It would be very interesting indeed to find out the percentage of complaints made to the Child Protection Authorities that turn out to be fallacious and the costs of limited resources wasted.

Wake up people!!! How many more innocent lives have to be lost before the 'win at all costs' trend is squashed?:banghead:

The system needs expanding to be more holistic, take all factors into condsideration, in any case something needs to be done yesterday, it's just not good enough in this day and age.

Anything run by the Govt is just crap but in the case of child protection the failures and consequences of those failures are horrific.
