Been through California, san Francisco, or NY yet?

They still the dirty shtholes I remember?

Yeah, I spend a bit of time in California every year, but haven’t been to NY yet.

As for “dirty sht holes”, it depends where you go, there is beautiful parts of California both natural and man made, and there are some rough neighbourhoods.

America is a great place if you have some walking around money. It it’s not a great place if you are broke. There is super rich people and there is poverty and every level in between. And they seem to live within metres of each other sometimes.

Cashless is also a problem for the homeless population which is on a up trend worldwide, perhaps branding them with a chip could solve the problem

All the ones I see, appear to have a mobile phone, also if push came to shove the Government would give them one.
It would make the welfare card easier to administer.

The wife and I generally like cruising, we just take it as a time to relax, catch up on some reading etc and eat lots of good food and enjoy some entertainment.

We find it a great way to see places that we haven't been to, or want to return to, without having to fly/airport/taxi/unpack/pack/taxi/fly.

We have been to the U.K a couple of times, once around Africa, once through the Suez.

Just a great way to travel IMO,
With replaced knees and a hip, plus more damage to the right tibia last year, the thought of flying makes me feel nauseous and we have a trip booked in Oct.

Strongly recommend doing it.

It does chew through money rather quickly though so regardless of how you're paying, be prepared to do a lot of it. Accommodation's the big cost if you want a good location, at least it was when I went there.

Whilst all this talk of travel is a bit off topic, may as well mention that I'm going to Melbourne tomorrow and Sydney on Saturday.

I see the Victorians have "kindly" organised some miserable weather. A maximum of 17 degrees, showers and windy. Just as well the reason for travel is indoors.

It's the compulsory aspect I dislike.

If people want to opt in to something then sure but the idea that you must have a smartphone, and you must carry it with you at all times for purposes that have nothing to do with making actual phone calls or even communication in general, is going too far in my view.

Plus the fact that every business and their dog has your phone number and will doubtless sell it to other vendors who will then text you about "upcoming offers" and clog up your inbox with useless cr@p.

He he. The number of times I have met with perplexed attitudes when I tell them there is no point in sending me links, etc when I inform them I don't have WiFi enabled on my phone nor do I have my actual email configured on it. To be honest, I haven't even established a MyGov account.

I am soon to have a day procedure and I confused the pre-admission office no end when I rang told them it was useless to send me a text linking to their app to fill out the forms as I don't download the things. The annoying aspect is organisations sends such links assuming the recipient wants to use the apps. My phone is so old anyway the OS is probably incompatible.

However, if the Gov or other entity would like to give me a couple of thousand to upgrade my phone to fit with their assumptions, I'll be more than happy to get a new one (with WiFi still not enabled and my actual email not configured.)

Mini rant:

Any country/society considering relying on the power grid entirely (aka CBDC) for their day to day commerce, and not having some form of physical medium of exchange, would have to be absolutely bonkers loco insane. Especially this country.

There are two factors for this. The First factor, as we have discussed on this forum, the powergrid is becoming unstable and is likely to become increasingly so over the coming years.

The second-hand alarming factor is the spectre of World war 3, any belligerent that wanted to completely disable this country would only need to do the whole electromagnetic pulse strategy to completely disable the whole electronic infrastructure.

Such a belligerent would probably wouldn't really have to do much else but sit back and watch the pandemonium.

I will keep purchasing things with cash thank you very much and I absolutely will not deal with any company that does not accept it.

Ahh Belli we are just about on the same page. I do have a i=phone, but not with wifi, banking and e-mail etc etc. But Me and She do have a MyGov account set up. This was only necessitated following the serious accident I endured 3 years ago. Though it tested the brain and marriage it is worth getting it set up.

Hahaha, I am the opposite, if you send me a letter in the mail it might not get opened or read, it might not even make it out of the letter box for several weeks.

I seem to remember having a discussion similar to this some time ago. I to do not have wi-fi or e-mail configerations on my phone. It's a bloody phone just to send and recieve phone calls and text messages. People at the other end just don't get it.
Important though to have a My Gov account set-up. Very important in this day and age.
Speaking to a friend only this morning about it. he was very apprehensive about it, because he demed it to be Big brother (Govt) being able to look over his shoulder. Long story short. Convinced him otherwise and he and her are going to Midland tomorrow to get an account set up.

Man, your “phone” is a lot more than just a phone.

Sure, I do use my phone for calls and texts, but I also use it for the following.

1, watching videos
2, listening to music
3, reading books, annual reports etc
4, it’s my car key
5, camera
6, internet searches
7, navigation
8, calculator
9, calender
10, emails
11, shopping list
12, games
13, controlling my aircon
14, controlling lights
15, weather
17, alarm clock
18, credit card
19, multitude of apps
18, shopping
19. Ordering food
20. Banking
21. Webcasts, podcasts etc

Etc etc etc

I do more “computer work” from my phone these days than I do at my computer.
