Cashless society

Man, your “phone” is a lot more than just a phone.

Sure, I do use my phone for calls and texts, but I also use it for the following.

1, watching videos
2, listening to music
3, reading books, annual reports etc
4, it’s my car key
5, camera
6, internet searches
7, navigation
8, calculator
9, calender
10, emails
11, shopping list
12, games
13, controlling my aircon
14, controlling lights
15, weather
17, alarm clock
18, credit card
19, multitude of apps
18, shopping
19. Ordering food
20. Banking
21. Webcasts, podcasts etc

Etc etc etc

I do more “computer work” from my phone these days than I do at my computer.
Geez, looking at that list you call "computer work", you must work for the public service.

Nah not for me just a phone with a handful of uses you have listed. Definitely NO banking or money matters on it ubder any circumstances. I trust no one.

When do you get time to do the really serious stuff like earning a quid. Mine is just basically a work phone that unfortunately I have to pay for. Though the Telstra scheme is pretty good and a tax dodge to boot.

So you don’t do any internet banking or anything? Or just not on your phone?

I kinda look at the phone as no different to a lap top or desk top computer as far as safety go.

Nah, I am self employed, running my own investment operation.

When I say “computer work” I just mean a lot of the tasks that 10 years ago I would have had to go sit down at my desk top computer to do, like research, spread sheeting, scanning documents, printing and other forms of record keeping, banking, buying shares, making loans etc.

Now, these tasks can all be down on my phone which is synced through the icloud with my desk top. So basically my phone is a Mini portable version of my desk top computer, I can work from either one, and no longer need a lap top for travel.

Usually im a all cash, no plastic no trace kind of guy, nothing to hide but nothing to show as well.

However when it comes to smart phones they are alot safer to use for netbank or any sensitive activity. Pending you don't install any questionable apps form questionable sources.

On a laptop you will be getting pron banners soon enough without even visiting any pron sites

I am an all plastic, give me points to upgrade my flights to business class kinda guy, hahahaha.

Plus I hate coins, the worst thing about spending cash is all the change you have to deal with, especially troublesome in foreign currencies, I carry a small amount of cash for emergencies or that sushi shop that only takes cash (but they are getting rare) other than that I am all plastic.

I am a dying breed when it comes to cash, but I hardly use a desktop/laptop anymore 99% of things can be done on a smartphone and on the go.

Use it or lose it.

I'm 90% cash transactions. It is a little bit more fuss, but I think retaining cash is super employment and that is the reason I do it.

Gabriel demonstrated that recently.

I would also add that a natural solar flare of strong intensity would burn all electronics, and it is not a matter of if but when.
I suspect such a surge as we already experienced during Victorian time 1800s when it burn all telegraphic networks and early 1900s would probably cause great chaos, loss of lives and mass starvation...add cashless and EV and it becomes a civilization collapse scenario .
Yet it is not that hard to protect most electronics components yet we are forging ahead in complete ignorance.
When this happens, remember the frog, ASF will be down sorry Joe ..and prepare your guns to protect your canned beans

I found the plastic card difficult to use in Europe, a lot of places didn't recognise our visa card, especially unmanned petrol stations which was a real problem.

I haven’t had any trouble yet, but as I said I keep a small amount of cash incase I get stuck, and in the USA for tips etc, but other than that I hate using cash

One of the more stressful situations I can recall was coming to a toll gate, a physical barrier, and realising the only method of payment I had that it might accept was an Australian credit card.

Noting there's no human operator there, no way around the gate and no easy option to turn around or reverse either. Meanwhile there's about a dozen cars behind me......

Don't think I've ever been so glad that a card worked. :xyxthumbs

Each to their own but even though I'm pretty keen on electrical things, I really don't need an app to turn my lights on.

Good old fashioned switches around here..... :)
it’s not just on / off though for the lights, can set timers, change colour, dim etc. and when you are laying in bed and realise your wife left the lounge room light on, it’s nice to turn it off without getting out of bed.

As far as the Air con goes, it’s nice to be able to switch it on before you get home, or as we did recently turn it on for our cat while we were in Florida when we saw the House temperature had gone over 30 degrees.

I get it.

But..... switch is dead simple and shouldn't go wrong. :)

Bit like cash which I've used on three occasions in the past few years. Two of those were after the big storm - no EFTPOS but cash worked just fine at the local shops.

No all banking via computer, and anything that I consider important also via computer. Phone is just a phone.

Ah we hold a couple of grand for safe keeping and emergencies, like when the credit card was scammed on a Friday. Card cancelled but fortunately cold hard folding was there.
Never had a problem with legal tender not being accepted.
We also love cash, especially when selling hay to the owners of the also ran hay burners.
