it's a marathon , not a sprintHi all, nice to meet you! I'm new here looking to finally start investing. I'm in my late 20s looking to finally start properly investing money. Was supposed to do it a few years ago when I attempted value investing, but realised reading annual reports that are hundreds of pages long is no fun lol.
I don't have a proper portfolio right now, just one share that I did as a test run but looking to expand asap.
Welcome to the site mate, I'm a TA trader so not a stock investor but there others here that can help with your knowledge of investing. My advice is to always play it safe.Hi all, nice to meet you! Thank you and will keep that in mind. I was planning to make a post soon on what I plan to do. I've read quite a bit about investing previously I'm just a bit rusty atm, will need to refresh my knowledge.welcome to ASF
but don't hurry to park your money yet ( unless you spot something compelling )
watch and learn first , some shares given better outcomes with certain styles of selection and buy timing
some shares fluctuate in cycles , some are often stuck in a range
you DON'T need to buy a big parcel at once , sure buying smaller ones cost more in brokerage but you get to watch for better times to buy ( or pick a different share if one becomes attractive )
this investing/trading thing is a STEEP learning curve , expect to take years to get most of it correct
please take care , and be flexible when you need to be
Good evening RbNEO and welcome to this fantastic ASF site.Thank you and will keep that in mind. I was planning to make a post soon on what I plan to do. I've read quite a bit about investing previously I'm just a bit rusty atm, will need to refresh my knowledge.
Thanks and will keep an eye on it.Good evening RbNEO and welcome to this fantastic ASF site.
May you do well.
There are two things I reckon that you should keep stuck before your eyes and these are:
1) It's your money, hard earned not someone else's, so be super cautious about advice, free or paid. You will find that you are as knowledgeable as the experts and
2) DYOR ie do your own research. If a mistake is made it is then a lesson learnt and only you will have to carry the can for that.
We have all got a horror story of our own.
Hopefully we will see your tag in the February Comp that is now open.
Jump in and have a bit of fan each month.

Welcome to the party , R b.but realised reading annual reports that are hundreds of pages long is no fun lol.
Appreciate the help, thanks!Welcome to the party , R b.
Here's my big tip ! Don't "read " , just skim . Start towards the back half at the cash flows . If real money is not coming in and there are always losses , you are looking at a penny dreadful , a " speccie " and it's high risk . Knowing that , you can then ignore all the fluff at the front of the report and take all further company announcements with a grain of salt . I do play around with this Scheisse , but with both eyes wide open and it's mainly for fun . My long term holdings , and superannuation ( don't ignore that ) while profitable are just like Real Estate , ......pretty boring . Stay away from the gambling end of the sharemarket , at least at the beginning of your wealth creation journey . You are going to need patience to become financially independent . Very few get rich quick . Read Mr. Divs # 2487 post again " expect it to take years " . Good luck . ( That is a real thing , too . Believe me . )
actually , Marcus Padley has ( out there somewhere ) a nice cheat-sheet to reading annual reports ( and when to pay CLOSE attention to details )Welcome to the party , R b.
