Hi there,
I'm pretty new to stock investment and I would like to seek for some advices pertaining to my current portfolio.
I've been holding these shares for about 10 months now and I don't know what should I do at this point in time - whether should I cut my loss for those stocks that are losing money now or should I wait for the stocks to bounce back when the iron-ore price recovered? I've read the news about iron ore price which most of the investors predicted that the iron ore price will not recover to its peak price until next year.

CFE - purchased at 0.145 (currently trading at 0.033)
FMG - purchased at 3.70 (currently trading at 2.29)
BHP - purchased at 31.40 (currently trading at 32.49)

Your advice and comments will be much appreciated.

Cheers,
vleong02

Sheese, difficult. I'm also new to this forum although I have been investing for over three decades. I am not criticising you for asking on these questions but I am not sure others can, or should, give you the answers you are seeking. I know I can't as, first, I am not a qualified adviser and, second, if it all went wrong and you lost money, there is an element of guilt attached on my part. Not to the extent, however, I'd dip into my own pocket and bail you out. I very much doubt anyone on this or any other forum would do that.

All I can suggest it to sit back and follow your own personal beliefs on these shares, make the decision, don't look back and have no regrets. And not to tell anyone else what you have done or you will likely get a reaction not in your favour from those who talk the talk but not walk the walk. If you should ever come across those types, maybe you ask why they are still working if they are such great investors/traders and, importantly, are they prepared to open their books for inspection to prove it?

Advice - To improve your timing you should pay attention to trends and be patient, would also help to look at a chart or 3, CFE, FMG and BHP were all experiencing down trends at the time.

Of course if looking for companies trading at a discount to value, looking for down trends might be a valid strategy!

Also a contrarian strategy might be to buy companies in heavily cyclic sectors in a down trend.

(not suggesting either was the OP's strategy!)
