I hope it's not a case of early ripe, early rotten.

This maybe something to think about Joe. Hypothetically systematic's pick could fall to zero or even negative by months end. On the last day it is plausible a tipper may win with a % increase that is only a fraction of his current percentage of 64.

Shouldn't the reward be for the highest percentage rise during the course of the month, rather than the tipper who happens to have it on the last day?

The true art is attaining the biggest potential profit, not who falls over the line at the last moment.

Harder to keep track of I understand that, but food for thought.

That is a good suggestion.

On the flip side of that is that this is a tipping competition, rather than a trading competition. Is the aim to tip the stock that does best or who trades it better? As a tipping comp, I think the former applies, but encourage others to voice their opinion.

My original point may be validated today. Systematic's stock down to +17%.
Yet he still did pick that original 64% increase, should he be penalised because the rise was at the start of the month and not the end?

I think the problem with the "highest high" in a comp is that we don't know what price a trader / investor could have gotten out. If my pick had gapped down this morning, it doesn't seem fair to me to say that an investor might have gotten out with a 100% profit.

I think either a fixed period (such as currently exists) or Purple XS2's suggestion of a sell (executed next day on open) is fair. Obviously the fixed period is simpler to manage.

Does anyone know of any longer dated comps? Or where you can manage a portfolio however you like (i.e. pretty much a dummy broker's account) but in a comp setting? I reckon that would be pretty fun (so that people could invest / trade however they wanted - with dummy brokerage being accounted for as well).

Congratulations to burglar, rcm617, and Knobby22 for taking out the top three places in the April 2013 stock tipping competition!

Burglar finished the month with an astonishing 400% return with ADN, almost all of which was achieved today, the last trading day of the month. In second place was rcm617, whose selection ACL returned a solid 16.67%. Rounding out the top three for April was Knobby22 with CIX, which returned an easy 15%.

Can burglar, rcm617, and Knobby22 please contact me via PM regarding their prizes.

Ha ha, I hear you. I've won it by something like 0.1c in it on the last day. I've also come second (when I would have won) by 0.1c or so because of the last day of the month.

This month I've been up 100% (intra day) and then negative - to finish absolutely square!

Great fun, this comp!
