Accessing historical data using an API?

Hi All

I am trying to find a way to access the stock market and hopefully historical data using an API, Application programming interface. I would like to be able to write my own software for market analysis and to do automatic trades.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing or know where I could find an API or a service that could do this?

Amibroker would fit the bill i guess, it's a C++ programming language, can download historical data from many sources, data vendors, brokers etc.

Ninjatrader another one, although have not used it, i think it's quite similar to amibroker.

I use Yahoo finance to get historical data (daily data) in the form of a csv spreadsheet. It looks something like this:

Do you trade shares now with any success?? Do you think that using some type of software you design will give you an edge??

There are already plenty of data providers, for a price. Are you trying to find data for free??

Have you tried Cityfalcon service? It's very reasonable compared to others. You can get 5 years of data via CSV format & NLU tags, sentiment analysis, and analytics for each story
