I think we have a cultural problem , an Achilles heel if you wish.
I will use the analogy to a fictional country in a mythical story to explain my point .

The first settlers in a fictional country I want to tell you about called Astraya were convicts. The accounts of life in Astraya were of a highly demoralised population under a few leaders and it was horrific. The way the women convicts were treated was abhorrent good men no better. The first women endured such sexual depravity and treatment that it defies belief. The culture that these people created, all of them both leaders and convicts, is the culture that has remained until today. The people are no longer convicts but the system and the culture still reflects those early times. Every new single person that historically entered into this larger population then acquired mostly their culture as it was or now is.

The population of the fictional country Astraya (like the convicts) hate the authority of the government (the wardens and authorities) over them culturally and they do not respect it. They don't respect it because deep down they feel they are not free but do not know it, and do not know that their internal unrest comes from this constant nagging which they cannot understand. It is as if internally they would like to find their freedom to create their own life, but are unable to do so because the system and the culture does not allow it. The government (warders) therefore has to introduce a myriad of legislation to keep the population (convicts) in line and doing work while ensuring the productive capitalists (lords of Londony another city elsewhere and their businesses) are able to use their money for financial profit to take the resources that belong to the Queen of Astraya called Lizzie and she by her kindness and maternal love for the people of Astraya allows this. The government (wardens) believe that they are by the grace of her majesty Queen Lizzie, looking after the convicts for her, ensuring that the lords can continue using her resources. The convicts are by the grace of Queen Lizzie enjoying medical care, housing, jobs and schooling for their children and a peaceful life under the sun watching footy going to the beach and having a barbecue and enjoying lots of beer, sex and drugs, plus each one gets a Ford or a Holden. This goes some way to keeping them happy. The convicts are not allowed to innovate or get ahead, everyone must be equal. The convicts must understand the the resources are not theirs, they are the queens but they are told that it is their resources so that they are placated. If you as an individual are smarter then your peers in this fictional country you will be taxed more to ensure you don't rise above and threaten. But there is no real self determination, this is why when the convicts buy a house it's merely a lease from the crown and they have no rights to it unless granted by the Queen, at any point the Queen can take it back and she frequently does. She and her lords did not go funding the first ships and settlement to have the convicts take it from her. The people have not made it a law that when they buy a property in full, nothing can take the land away from them, even bankruptcy. The land is non-negotiable. It is why the indigenous population called the absoluteoriginals are being paid off by finding a few who are then placed on the pedestal of representing the entire clan and those few are given the rights to sell alcohol or given the money to shut up while the lords mine their lands. The rest of the absoluteoriginals are kept drunk and uneducated just in case an outsider comes and starts demanding back what the Queen usurped with her lords. The convicts have been trained to believe that they live in a free democracy and they can live under a labourious or liberalorius warden who gets chosen by the Lords and Queen and the people can then vote for who they like to choose their warden. They have now chosen warden Abbotmonk as their ward and a variety of section leaders in their State Goverments.

Just like in the movie or series Housos we can see the contempt for authority everywhere. This is because the convicts know it's all a lie but don't know how to change it. Plus they are perpetually confused. When their mother Queen Lizzie arrived in a city called Prith a few years back the West Astraya newspaper printed on their front page, "the Queen is inviting all west Astraya people to a barbecue picnic lunch with her where everybody will get a FREE snagger as she sits aloft from Kingsy Park and addresses her beloved children. How they loved her. It turns out later that the hundreds of thousands of people were duped, the queen did not give them a free sausage, they paid for it themselves via taxes. The convicts even recently gave up a park that was given to the People of Prith in perpetuity to enjoys as a free space, to the state government (warder Barnut ). Warder Barnut has sold off large parts of it for profit and building something for the Lords to profit from. Warder Barnut named it after Queen Lizzie.

Once a year the convicts gather around the leaders and they celebrate as a patriotic event what was the horrific callous decision by one of Queen Lizzies men called Loosestone Crutchpit who sent the men and women of Astraya to their senseless death. Instead of the event being a ceremony that remembers the beauty of those men and women who died for the stupidity of a man in what has since been called a blunder of Dardeeelian Proportions ( and in many other cultures has attained the status of being called an idiot if you are called a dardeeliaaan) . Instead of that event being remembered as proof of a massacre against innocent people, in the most stupid of human endeavours called war, so that generations can remember how disgusting war is. The wardens decided that this event is to glorify how great the country is that it can send thousands to die a senseless death in the NAME of a freedom. Instead of using the event as a reminder to the people, by the people, of how the totalitarian regime can kill the people senselessly, so that it never happens again, the regime uses it as propaganda to send more Astraya people to fight wars to protect the business interests of the lords and their allies. Blowing epic proportions of money. Instead of it being an occasion where the Astraya people hug the families of the loved ones left behind and apologise to them that they let the government and warders massacre their young men and women, it became a sort of congratulatory affair. Well done chaps you obeyed mother Queen and she has now given you a ceremony with a nice statue with the names of all those fine young people who were good enough to to blindly obey us. Please do this again because we need you to protect our business and use our goods. alright, good, now bow your heads and let's sing "Goody Goody lets save the queen", oops sorry wrong one my mistake I meant, " Astraya ya fair beauty."

If anybody criticises life in Astraya they are quickly labelled and risk loosing their citizenship or thrown into jail, for instance if you work in one of the concentration camps and witness child abuse the wardens have made it a criminal offence to report that. Even the convicts hate it, they put stickers up on their holdens and fords rears that say if you don't like it get out. Or they say you should see how bad it is in other countries and that it is the lucky country. This culture was quickly set up by the warders so that nobody could question the big issues. Every time there is an election or something horrible is being covered up then the warders concentrate on a phenomenon called the boaterspeople so that the convicts become confused.

At the moment in Astraya the warders have allowed the convicts to buy incredibly expensive houses and threaten to throw them into the prison or onto the street of poverty so that living under that threat they may be better controlled. The warders have allowed the selling of food and neccesities to be given only to two or three central food distribution centres which sell food at an exhorbitant price. These are Woolords, Co-lies and if you want food you buy it there. if you have food to sell you must give it to them to sell for you and you can rent the space of their shelves and wait 6 months for your money to be given to you. So the people of Astraya now have to watch what they say or think or do because if they are not careful they will loose their house, family and jobs and food. If this happens they can then go to another distribution centre called Centrallywethinkhowtolinkyoutoslavery. Here the desperate people are managed by another layer of massive confusing bureaucracy and forms which are hundred pages long to be filled in requiring you to fill in hundreds more everywhere else to get the information required in what is a bureaucratic paper prison to steal your time and energy and your free capacity to think. In return you get a meagre wage and this keeps the other convicts from helping you because you are now the convict who is stealing all their taxes and doing no productive work. The wardens think it's brilliant. It's so divisive that the convicts will never help each other or unite. It keeps Astraya ticking and allows the warders to shout out from the rooftops " go and have a go "

One day eventually, the convicts of Astraya want to build something that is their own, and begin to rule in their own country, where they can redefine everything and recreate the culture and build a great people in a great land, where no absoluteoriginal needs to be oppressed and no bank or Lord or queen can take away their land. where everybody on the street is kind and good to each other and where children can play and just be children in a normal society that's good for society and not good for the few billionaires.

ROTFLMAO!

Brilliant....

ROTFLMAO!

Brilliant....

I won't ROTFLMAO, because the story describes a very sad truth. Tragically, only a tiny minority of Convicts realise how unevenly the Common Wealth is being distributed.

But I agree, the story is Brilliantly composed.

I think I got you, CanOz:

“I've found out why people laugh. They laugh because it hurts so much . . . because it's the only thing that'll make it stop hurting.”
― Robert A. Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land

Such dark humour. So sadly true.

I want to laugh, part of me wants to cry.

Sigh. Tis been far too easy to pull the wool over our eyes.

I wonder if the impending economic decline will see us pull more together, or if we'll split along the papered over fault lines of our society??

Now in Astraya there is a major problem. Because the convicts offspring have acquired the cultural mindset of being in a prison and cannot break out of this psychology because the warders enforce it by a variety of means, the Astrayans are always engaged in entrenched social and self destructive behaviours. The warders and business lords do this by the continual bombardment of propaganda, paying the commercial newspapers and media content providers a hefty sum of taxes and profits everyday to direct life and opinion towards their views and philosophies, in addition they enforce rules, regulations and bureaucracy to achieve THEIR aims also.

To be fully human one must have internal freedom, added to this a free will that can withstand other internal emotional influences and a clear mind that can clearly see the external influences that shape daily life.

But what is this internal freedom that needs to be acquired? If somebody for instance is prone to selfishness as an emotion for instance and whenever an opportunity arises to make a profit for ones self, they are unable to even consider if their next action will cause another to suffer, then they themselves are not free. If they can consider the selfishness of their actions and see that they are being selfish then a more serious problem arises for the person, because in that case they are not only internally not free but they are stupid as well as selfish and added to that they are immoral. If they continue down this path for long they eventually degenerate themselves and self destruction wrecks havoc. The symptoms will be seen on their health and the dysfunction of their own family and acquisitions of further unhealthy addictions plus they will destroy society around them.

Simple example, typical Astrayan property developer is building a neighbourhood, he sees that he can squeeze three more houses onto the parcel of land he has subdivided if he orients all houses with their back yards facing west and resulting in cold and dark living and bedrooms. He also sees that he can save thousands by putting in a single sink in the kitchen instead of a proper full size double sink and he can also save thousands of dollars putting in the cheapest good looking dishwasher he can find. He doesn't put in double glazed windows because again he can save thousands and he also doesn't put in proper insulation. He puts in cheap as chips plumbing and fittings. He does this because the Astrayan wardens have laws that favour property developers to build cheap ****, he does this because the warders have enforced poor minimum building standards and there does not exist a rental property inspector and minimum standards for rental properties. But what's the result?

The people live in these houses not out of free choice but out of necessity because the warders keep the system tight and expensive by not building proper high speed wide highways with proper on and off ramps and expanding outwards on the endless land. The wardens don't want to spend money on infrastructure by taking taxes from the lords of mining and industry who have registered their businesses offshore and are using cheap foreign labour.

What happens is that the Astrayan people living in these houses after a long day in work full of warden induced stupidity in a warden induced money system where saving is impossible and everything is expensive and bureaucratic, they become angry, frustrated and depressed and high in debt, they switch on the TV grab a whiskey and a beer to escape the subtle barely noticeable misery and watch some pr0n before they retire. Their emotional weaknesses are enhanced and their internal freedom is curtailed, they stop thinking. They take 2 hours to wash their dishes because the dishwasher is crap that doesn't really wash as it's supposed to, they struggle in the single sink, they are always battling with the plumbing, electricity and fixtures. They are always cold because the house is never in the sunlight and the tiny windows are letting heat out in winter and heat in, in summer. There is no airflow because the neighbours fence can be touched by stretching your hand out your window and you can hear your neighbour screaming in anger or ecstasy but you definitely hear ACDC blaring through the speakers. There are no trees and lawns nor birds in the gardens, because the beautiful leafy suburb has been replaced with a rooftop and concrete jungle. They then react in the same way the developer reacted, they move to selfishness themselves.

Another extreme case of loss of internal freedom is when somebody is prone to uncontrollable sexual urges they will then be a serial philanderer, picking up as many partners as they can and disposing of them just as frequently. Another case is being a slave of the emotion that demands alcohol or coffee or drugs or money or power. Another case is aggression, once the aggression emotion arises the logical reasoning of the brain and calm is shutdown. In all these cases the human being is not free because they are ruled by an emotion but certainly not themselves.

So one is not free when a poor idea is ruling your life, either, for instance you may have the idea that you are superior due to your superior brainpower and can clearly see that you are smarter but can't see the flaw that you will despite your smarts still miss 40-10% of what's really in front of your face to see and understand but which may be exactly the 10% that the dumb person standing in front of you clearly sees and understands, even if that's the only thing they see and understand, but which in the given situation is the best thing to see and understand.

So the first thing the Astrayan must do if they truly wish to be free is to free their internal lives. They must go through a process that is not commonly known about of getting to understand their internal life. They must do this if they wish to be internally free because the Astrayan has come through many battles to get to where they are. They were the ones who from wherever they came from could not find themselves in society, or were escaping dysfunction or were already convicts and thus denigrated. They worked hard like slaves to build life here and they need to now build the internal country that is their own personal life in order to make Astraya the pinnacle of human civilisation, to create the future of a sane humanity and not look to other countries to compare.
The internal process must be undertaken or they will pass the disease of slavery within and slavery without, down the generations and everyone will suffer.
