I think we have a cultural problem , an Achilles heel if you wish.
I will use the analogy to a fictional country in a mythical story to explain my point .
The first settlers in a fictional country I want to tell you about called Astraya were convicts. The accounts of life in Astraya were of a highly demoralised population under a few leaders and it was horrific. The way the women convicts were treated was abhorrent good men no better. The first women endured such sexual depravity and treatment that it defies belief. The culture that these people created, all of them both leaders and convicts, is the culture that has remained until today. The people are no longer convicts but the system and the culture still reflects those early times. Every new single person that historically entered into this larger population then acquired mostly their culture as it was or now is.
The population of the fictional country Astraya (like the convicts) hate the authority of the government (the wardens and authorities) over them culturally and they do not respect it. They don't respect it because deep down they feel they are not free but do not know it, and do not know that their internal unrest comes from this constant nagging which they cannot understand. It is as if internally they would like to find their freedom to create their own life, but are unable to do so because the system and the culture does not allow it. The government (warders) therefore has to introduce a myriad of legislation to keep the population (convicts) in line and doing work while ensuring the productive capitalists (lords of Londony another city elsewhere and their businesses) are able to use their money for financial profit to take the resources that belong to the Queen of Astraya called Lizzie and she by her kindness and maternal love for the people of Astraya allows this. The government (wardens) believe that they are by the grace of her majesty Queen Lizzie, looking after the convicts for her, ensuring that the lords can continue using her resources. The convicts are by the grace of Queen Lizzie enjoying medical care, housing, jobs and schooling for their children and a peaceful life under the sun watching footy going to the beach and having a barbecue and enjoying lots of beer, sex and drugs, plus each one gets a Ford or a Holden. This goes some way to keeping them happy. The convicts are not allowed to innovate or get ahead, everyone must be equal. The convicts must understand the the resources are not theirs, they are the queens but they are told that it is their resources so that they are placated. If you as an individual are smarter then your peers in this fictional country you will be taxed more to ensure you don't rise above and threaten. But there is no real self determination, this is why when the convicts buy a house it's merely a lease from the crown and they have no rights to it unless granted by the Queen, at any point the Queen can take it back and she frequently does. She and her lords did not go funding the first ships and settlement to have the convicts take it from her. The people have not made it a law that when they buy a property in full, nothing can take the land away from them, even bankruptcy. The land is non-negotiable. It is why the indigenous population called the absoluteoriginals are being paid off by finding a few who are then placed on the pedestal of representing the entire clan and those few are given the rights to sell alcohol or given the money to shut up while the lords mine their lands. The rest of the absoluteoriginals are kept drunk and uneducated just in case an outsider comes and starts demanding back what the Queen usurped with her lords. The convicts have been trained to believe that they live in a free democracy and they can live under a labourious or liberalorius warden who gets chosen by the Lords and Queen and the people can then vote for who they like to choose their warden. They have now chosen warden Abbotmonk as their ward and a variety of section leaders in their State Goverments.
Just like in the movie or series Housos we can see the contempt for authority everywhere. This is because the convicts know it's all a lie but don't know how to change it. Plus they are perpetually confused. When their mother Queen Lizzie arrived in a city called Prith a few years back the West Astraya newspaper printed on their front page, "the Queen is inviting all west Astraya people to a barbecue picnic lunch with her where everybody will get a FREE snagger as she sits aloft from Kingsy Park and addresses her beloved children. How they loved her. It turns out later that the hundreds of thousands of people were duped, the queen did not give them a free sausage, they paid for it themselves via taxes. The convicts even recently gave up a park that was given to the People of Prith in perpetuity to enjoys as a free space, to the state government (warder Barnut ). Warder Barnut has sold off large parts of it for profit and building something for the Lords to profit from. Warder Barnut named it after Queen Lizzie.
Once a year the convicts gather around the leaders and they celebrate as a patriotic event what was the horrific callous decision by one of Queen Lizzies men called Loosestone Crutchpit who sent the men and women of Astraya to their senseless death. Instead of the event being a ceremony that remembers the beauty of those men and women who died for the stupidity of a man in what has since been called a blunder of Dardeeelian Proportions ( and in many other cultures has attained the status of being called an idiot if you are called a dardeeliaaan) . Instead of that event being remembered as proof of a massacre against innocent people, in the most stupid of human endeavours called war, so that generations can remember how disgusting war is. The wardens decided that this event is to glorify how great the country is that it can send thousands to die a senseless death in the NAME of a freedom. Instead of using the event as a reminder to the people, by the people, of how the totalitarian regime can kill the people senselessly, so that it never happens again, the regime uses it as propaganda to send more Astraya people to fight wars to protect the business interests of the lords and their allies. Blowing epic proportions of money. Instead of it being an occasion where the Astraya people hug the families of the loved ones left behind and apologise to them that they let the government and warders massacre their young men and women, it became a sort of congratulatory affair. Well done chaps you obeyed mother Queen and she has now given you a ceremony with a nice statue with the names of all those fine young people who were good enough to to blindly obey us. Please do this again because we need you to protect our business and use our goods. alright, good, now bow your heads and let's sing "Goody Goody lets save the queen", oops sorry wrong one my mistake I meant, " Astraya ya fair beauty."
If anybody criticises life in Astraya they are quickly labelled and risk loosing their citizenship or thrown into jail, for instance if you work in one of the concentration camps and witness child abuse the wardens have made it a criminal offence to report that. Even the convicts hate it, they put stickers up on their holdens and fords rears that say if you don't like it get out. Or they say you should see how bad it is in other countries and that it is the lucky country. This culture was quickly set up by the warders so that nobody could question the big issues. Every time there is an election or something horrible is being covered up then the warders concentrate on a phenomenon called the boaterspeople so that the convicts become confused.
At the moment in Astraya the warders have allowed the convicts to buy incredibly expensive houses and threaten to throw them into the prison or onto the street of poverty so that living under that threat they may be better controlled. The warders have allowed the selling of food and neccesities to be given only to two or three central food distribution centres which sell food at an exhorbitant price. These are Woolords, Co-lies and if you want food you buy it there. if you have food to sell you must give it to them to sell for you and you can rent the space of their shelves and wait 6 months for your money to be given to you. So the people of Astraya now have to watch what they say or think or do because if they are not careful they will loose their house, family and jobs and food. If this happens they can then go to another distribution centre called Centrallywethinkhowtolinkyoutoslavery. Here the desperate people are managed by another layer of massive confusing bureaucracy and forms which are hundred pages long to be filled in requiring you to fill in hundreds more everywhere else to get the information required in what is a bureaucratic paper prison to steal your time and energy and your free capacity to think. In return you get a meagre wage and this keeps the other convicts from helping you because you are now the convict who is stealing all their taxes and doing no productive work. The wardens think it's brilliant. It's so divisive that the convicts will never help each other or unite. It keeps Astraya ticking and allows the warders to shout out from the rooftops " go and have a go "
One day eventually, the convicts of Astraya want to build something that is their own, and begin to rule in their own country, where they can redefine everything and recreate the culture and build a great people in a great land, where no absoluteoriginal needs to be oppressed and no bank or Lord or queen can take away their land. where everybody on the street is kind and good to each other and where children can play and just be children in a normal society that's good for society and not good for the few billionaires.
