its ok here all the Muslims are way down south thats where the danger is and suppose just as dangerous as any other place not much chance of being glass in a hotel here.
Boracay is nice, lots of good resorts and top class casino's. Markati is world class.

domestic beach haven will cost you more at the resort or place you stay versus SE Asia but you may have to spend a bit more on airfares to leave Oz. But there are some great packages - just stay away from the places where the ratbags go. Malaysia was nice. Pacific islands - Noumea is a bit expensive.

NZ has lots of nice places but in Sept the water will be cold - but then I thought the water was cold all the time when we lived there. Pacific islands generally offer a quieter time rather than an adrenaline junkie type experience. It's hard to say what you'll like as people vary so much.

Tasmania is nice but cool and the East coast is nice.

QLD - only been to Cairns so can't say much about QLD but lotsa of people I know have been to Noosa repeatedly.

Add Palm Cove, just north of Cairns, into the mix. Unlike Port Douglas, its main street where most of the accommodation and quality eateries are located is an esplanade opposite the beach, with views to boot. It is hard to justify the backblocks of PD by comparison.

All the tours you could possibly take from Port Douglas are available from there too.

Cairns itself is crud, IMO.

FOr a honeymoon yes, but as a party town it's great. I lived there in 2005 right at the peak of the tourist/real estate boom and it was pumping. Still go back there with the boys once a year to party

Yep, outstanding little party town. Great base for adventure.

A Daintree Lodge would be nice for a short Lunamiel.

IF I had 10 g to spend I would get a few good friend go to a top class restaurant and blow 1 g and then spend the next few days going to pawn shops buying gold any thing 9K
But then again I am older and wise

looks good mate, have you been there yourself? might be a stupid question but is it a dry island? i notice they dont mention(or i cant see them mention) about drinks or cocktails or things of this nature. seems very affordable, and more importantly isnt too far away! we went to the maldives last year, and the trip home is almost unbearable after having such an unbelievable time away. 8 hours wait in Male, 5 hours to singapore, 6 hour stop over and 10 hours home, i know its not the worst, but 8 hours in Male airport is a hell of alot.

I would go to Koh Samui, a beautiful tropical island on the east cost of Thailand. Stay at one of the nice resorts right on Chaweng Beach. I have been there several times. You can get reasonably priced package deals to there and the exchange rate is excellent right now.

hayman island looks unreal. We were looking in to going to thailand already(separate trip) and koh samui was where we were heading, fiance wants to know what the shopping is like there?

lord howe island looks good too, could definitely go a couple of rounds of golf

if possible i like to venture outside australia(apologies for not boosting our economy) but we like to get a taste of different cultures where possible also, but by no means a necessity on this trip.

and glen, i work my **** off and my time before children is limited, having a night we wont remember and a bunch of old gold sitting in a safe most certainly will not cut it the economy isnt going anywhere for the next couple of years, so im gonna live it up while i still have a job!

Lord Howe is superb, natural and so peaceful, maybe slightly cool in Sept? (like Port Macquarie)

Depends what climate you prefer and whether you mind being hassled as young honeymooners in most asian destinations

The shopping on Koh Samui is not that great, it isn't that kind of place but you can still buy plenty of shorts, T Shirts, bangles, necklaces etc at the night stands on the main road. On your way over you could spend 2 nights in Bangkok where it is a lot better. Koh Samui is so laid back, nice white sand beaches and the best Thai food you can get. I usually hire a motorcycle and ride around the island, so nice.

The weather is always tropical (I've never been cold there) and you do get the downpours from time to time but it least it doesn't rain 7 days in a row like we are getting in Sydney right now.

There is also the Big Buddha which is a little ride away from Chaweng, you get the real feel for Buddhism and the Thai culture there. Now I don't know if you are into it or not but if you are both party people they have the full moon parties over on Koh Phan Ghan (sp) a nearby island as well. I don't bother with it as it only attracts the younger (get wiped out crowd).

You can keep yourself busy with nightclubs and bars if you want to as well, or just sit in the open air having a nice meal looking out at the beach, it is "up to you" as the Thais say how you want to spend your time, cheers.

may be a fairly broad question but what kinda of spending money(food drinks shopping etc) would be best to have stashed away for a trip? just for an average joe with the occasional splash out.

Sri Lanka was mentioned - highly recommend. Great fun/cheap and very friendly locals. Aragum bay, Hikkaduwa, Trincomalee, Matara etc - all worth it. They've finally built a highway to the south as well which reduced travel time by about 3 hours.

I've never been but lots of people I know have been to Boracay - Phillipines. They said it was both cheap and exactly what a young couple would be after.

It's funny how honeymoons have become bigger and bigger over the years. When we went to Port Douglas it was considered the height of extravagence, nowadays quite a lot of people have a full blown European tour as their honeymoon. My parents had a few days at Flinders (running joke in our family as Flinders is not in the least bit exciting or romantic )

It wouldn't be, most are young backpackers, both single men and women and plenty of young couples too. It is the foreigners that attend these full moon parties. All of Koh Samui is geared towards it. When that time of the Month comes the ferries and speed boats gear up ready for transportation of the Samuians over to Koh Phang Ghan (sp). 20 years ago it was low key, now it's a world wide phenomena. People from all over the world attend, Aussies are not the dominant group and makes it more fun to meet people from other countries (mostly all of Europe). I've just moved on from it all as I've aged a bit and would rather drink a beer under a coconut tree on the beach these days.

To be honest I prefer Buddhism more than any other religion/belief and I feel at piece when I visit the temple. I attach a photo of the Big Buddha.

They do really. Gee it's funny, 20 years ago it was only backpackers and the main strip on Chaweng Beach was a dirt road. Now it's bitumin, ATM's everywhere and a Tesco Lotus just out of town. It has changed for the better but now more and more tourists are coming.

Depends on what you want. To cut it simple, if you both want to eat foreign food (read western) in nice restaurants it will cost you more. If you want real Thai food in Thai peoples restaurants it will be half the price. A motorcycle is 250 baht a day. Big Buddha visit is free. Beer is cheap, less than pubs here. Ferry to Koh Phang Ghan, very cheap. If your accommodation is paid maybe $100 per day for 2 but gee, I can live on $50. It's up to you and your dear partner, she is the one to really please/take care of, you got know her spending/wants and needs to work it out.

Personally i wouldn't go to Koh Samui for a honeymoon. I would look for somewhere slightly more unique, but that said, if you find a nice resort i'm sure it will still be nice and memorable.

I can relate. Originally from Perth, we went north for ours. Only got as far as Geraldton, where the new wife got the most vile 'flu and spent the next 10 days sick in bed!! We laugh about it now. But we couldn't afford overseas - more affordable now.
