I'm in the process of trying to find a place for my honeymoon in september, but am struggling with where to go! we have had a few places suggested such as hawaii and greek islands, but the people suggesting have never been there. We've been to travel agents but once again alot of them are just reading out of the brochures. I was hoping to get some advice from people that have visited certain destinations and have experienced it. can recommend some places. We are aiming for a more tropical/beachy honeymoon, but are open to any good ideas! Can anyone help us?? Oh and we dont have mounds of money so 10 nights in bora bora is out of the question;)

September is usually dryer and cooler in the tropics south of the equator in September.

Re: Honeymoon...

I got married and went on a honeymoon last year.

From my personal experience, if we were to do it again, we would actually shy away from a tropical/beach one. Heat, sand, insects (and you can be assured everywhere on a 'tropical beach' holiday has this) etc can be mood killers. Dont get me wrong, we had a great time (;) ) but the tropics does have certain downfalls.

If we were to do it again we would consider a cooler climate area such as Lord Howe Island or Tasmania where you can have a romantic open fire and just have a nice cosy room.

That said, if you are still keen on a tropical one we went to Tioman Island in Malaysia. Check out details at the travel forum in my sig if you want more info

Mate, have a look at http://erakorislandresort.com

But I'm a bit biased, I have a good accountant around that part of the world ... :)

This is where we went in November 2007.
It wasn't our "original" honeymoon, but we still enjoyed each other plus pampered luxury.
When you're there, don't miss the opportunity of a helicopter flight over the Cradle Mountain; walk around the lakes; stroll through the Waldheim Chalet and adjacent rainforest...

Hayman Island (pricey) if you can afford it, otherwise Lord Howe Island is an excellent suggestion, they limit visitor numbers there. I wouldn't recommend Hawaii unless you've been before.

I would go to Koh Samui, a beautiful tropical island on the east cost of Thailand. Stay at one of the nice resorts right on Chaweng Beach. I have been there several times. You can get reasonably priced package deals to there and the exchange rate is excellent right now.:D

Re: Honeymoon...

I'm with you. Also do you like cold or warm.:D

A month ago, I was inside the Arctic Circle dog sledding! I'm a big fan of cold climates but I'm not sure the new wife would be too happy if young-gun told her she was going to Tromso.

Back on-topic, without knowing anymore info I'd say a) Hawaii b) Maldives c) Sri Lanka

My honeymoon was Port Douglas then Care Tribulation in a eco forest resort. It was fantastic.

I think its good to get a change of scene and not be stck in one place.

I would go Fiji or Numea in front of Hawai if you are looking at islands.

We also went to Port Douglas and had a few days in Cairns as well. It was great - highly recomended! We had no problems with insects or anything, we went in May so it was hot but not humid. Highlight of the trip was snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, absolutley amazing!!! Never seen anything as magnificent as the fish and coral up there.

The most interesting place I have been to was Lost Wages book into the MGM Grand tell them you are on a honeymoon all cheap and bizarre, also while there there is a glass platform that stretches out over the Grand canyon, fly over Grand canyon and go see Hover Dam.
Go to Universal Studios in LA . Good luck with the marriage hope you both die happy in 80 yrs+ time.
Share the same surname ??

.

Wow
Im the exact opposite.
Been to all three and Rate Hawaii way way in front.

Sri Lanka was mentioned - highly recommend. Great fun/cheap and very friendly locals. Aragum bay, Hikkaduwa, Trincomalee, Matara etc - all worth it. They've finally built a highway to the south as well which reduced travel time by about 3 hours.

I've never been but lots of people I know have been to Boracay - Phillipines. They said it was both cheap and exactly what a young couple would be after.

Thanks JTLP

I've got friends who want us to visit in the Philippines. They work as English and French teachers in the International School Manila. I am a bit nervous about it as I have heard it is a pretty tough country.

Anyone else had a holiday there?
