Don't buy petrol on the 22nd of Feb

While ago there was something similar with switching light off for 1 hour.
People responsible for grid said to media, that sudden drop in demand can be bigger problem for the grid, than sudden increase in demand.

As to purchase of anything we artificially create increased demand the day before and the day after, which is hard on petrol stations and us customers, who will be frustrated by staying in longer queues than usual.

On the other hand if we could all go solar from 22-nd this could be really something, but petrol stations would collapse first, I think.
Any sudden change in load, either up or down, can cause major problems for the grid if it's large enough.

That event didn't actually achieve much though. Promoters claim a 10% reduction but that wasn't noticeable at the power stations - closer to 1% and too small to accurately measure compared to business as usual.

As for the original post, it would have some impact only if we all stopped consuming petrol for a day and didn't make up for it before or after. That is, shut down the transport system for a day and somehow enforce that all disrupted travel, freight etc is abandoned rather than made up the next day.

Getting about on a flying pig would be more effective. I'm glad that ASF allows free speech though even if the idea doesn't stack up.:2twocents

I liked the suggestion that rather than boycott petrol stations you choose not to buy the other products they sell. The petrol stations make money from the magazines, chocolate, milk, etc they sell and are VERY keen to capture customers who will buy these goods at inflated prices.

A better way of punishing the petrol companies, in my opinion, would be to avoid buying anything but fuel from them if the price goes above a limit, e.g. $1.20 per litre.

I have to say I get pretty p####d off when the prices fluctuate by >5 cents per litre on a day to day basis. It makes me feel like I am being taken for a ride. It leads me to ask the question: why are we accepting petrol companies making astronomical profits. As consumers are we able to make a difference and oppose the high prices charged for petrol? What would the catalyst be?

Is this simplistic? A few years ago petrol companies were making profits when oil was selling for $30 per barrel and now it is circa $90 per barrel. Are we being taken for a ride?

Don't buy Petrol PERIOD...

Build yourself a Water Fuel Cell...

Just do a search for HHO on youtube.

Inflation and scarcity at work there.

Inflation: A few years ago workers were making a living when wages were $10 per hour and now it is circa $30 per hour. Are employers being taken for a ride?

Scarcity: 45 years ago we discovered far more oil than we used. Then consumers started using more, more and more when discovery was declining and they should have been using less, less and less again. Do consumers understand the concept that oil is a finite resource? We've managed to use roughly a quarter of all the conventional crude oil we will likely EVER use since 1985 and are now using more than ever.

I wonder how many Australians realise that the Bass Strait fields, for example, are 95%+ depleted and that production has collapsed to the point of it no longer being a major source even in the Australian domestic context?

There's a great conspiracy here but it's not with the oil companies. It's the car companies that tried to keep peak oil quiet in order to sell SUV's and guzzling sedans when consumers would have been better off with small diesels. But small cars are less profitable to sell...

How about a permanent boycott not of oil companies, but of any car manufacturer that doesn't offer efficient vehicles to consumers? Long term it would likely do the economy good too - we import fuel and there's unlikely to be a long term future building six cylinder petrol sedans that the market doesn't want anyway (witness Mitsubishi).

Face it. The cheap oil party is coming to an end. Something geologists have been trying, somewhat unsuccessfully, to raise awareness of for the past half century. :2twocents

Instead of Popping some more Sodium Fluoride and Chlorine Pills, why don't you go make one and prove that it can't be done...

I'm not that much of a prick ;)

Just because I disagree with something, doesn't mean I'm likely to delete it.... I just think almost all the ideas in that email were either made up, wrong or created by someone that's smoked way too much pot.

ur funny!

Bloody hell guys. I can't wait till you start to boycott the baker because he has put up the price of a loaf of bread. Anyone seen wheat lately?

Butter under lock and key as prices soar

SYDNEY (AFP) — Australian pastry chef Tracy Nickl never imagined he would have to tighten security at his country bakery to ensure nobody stole his butter.

But when he realised the value of his yellow stockpile had reached more than 20,000 dollars (17,665 US), he decided it was time to put in an alarm system and have a security guard patrol his business at night.

"It's incredibly valuable," he told AFP. "Its price has gone from 100 boxes being worth 6,000 or 7,000 dollars... now it's worth 20,000 dollars.

White gold?

We seem to be entering into an Inflation spiral, its all looking pretty ugly really! Soaring Inflation, rising Interest rates and falling asset prices, colourful mix to say the least :cautious:

Forget Monet, Van Gogh & Cezane, I'm going to rally the boys and head to my local Woolies!

OMG - youve inadvertently admitted to the Heist!

On Sunday, the three men who entered the E. G. Bührle Collection here took four paintings — a Cézanne, a Degas, a van Gogh and a Monet together worth an estimated $163 million — but not the most valuable works in the collection. The four just happened to be hanging in the same room.

Not quite what you're referring to but I used to DJ for a strip show a few years ago.

We used to have one of those professional looking metal equipment boxes that sound gear is packed in. Only thing is, it wasn't for equipment at all. It was for cash made on the night as there's no way you'd fit it in a wallet or pockets. More than once that box ended up with more than a year's average salary in it. :2twocents

Too late sorry. Was a few years ago now although she is still doing it. Not sure exactly how much she made out of it but I know it's $ millions not including profits from businesses she owns.
