got this message in the email:

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN AUSTRALIA DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A
NET LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE FRIDAY FEBRUARY 22ND HAS BEEN FORMALLY
DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR ASS" DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT DAY. THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU COPY THIS BULLETIN TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE
PRICES? IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED LONG AGO?

THE PRICES JUST KEEP GOING UP AND WE NEED TO STOP IT!

PETROL PRICES ARE CAUSING OTHER EFFECTS; AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, AS ARE TRUCKING COMPANIES . THIS INCREASES PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING SUPPLIES, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC.

WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO! AND WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD!

I'm not that much of a prick ;)

Just because I disagree with something, doesn't mean I'm likely to delete it.... I just think almost all the ideas in that email were either made up, wrong or created by someone that's smoked way too much pot.

The best way to do it is to have targetted boycotting.

ie/ Get the masses to boycott xxxx company for one month till their prices drop, then the next victim.

hard part is getting everyone to play cricket :D

4.6 bln net for a day gives them.. in Aus.. 1679Bln net a year?? CTX here I come.. :D

The email is just bad execution but I do believe consumer activism is the most effective way to make a difference (rather than political activism).

Even if the boycott had the effect the OP described (which it wouldn't), doing something that is likely to restrict supply in the future will do anything but help prices.

It never worked the first few times it did the rounds but it seems now they think if they yell (TYPE IN CAPS) it will have the desired effect:cool:

While ago there was something similar with switching light off for 1 hour.
People responsible for grid said to media, that sudden drop in demand can be bigger problem for the grid, than sudden increase in demand.

As to purchase of anything we artificially create increased demand the day before and the day after, which is hard on petrol stations and us customers, who will be frustrated by staying in longer queues than usual.

On the other hand if we could all go solar from 22-nd this could be really something, but petrol stations would collapse first, I think.

If we all stopped breathing for a whole day we'd reduce Greenhouse gases. Life in Queensland would continue as normal however ;)

What about the fact that the next day every dingus and his dog is just going to buy double the amount they needed the day before.

The 22nd is a Friday ... I buy my petrol on a Tuesday (or Wednesday morning) ... so OK then :D.
