Will Trump's tariffs lead to a global trade war?

good resuscitation of v.1

was the first term just a dress rehearsal?

Not many of the old "advisers" / bullet-point compilers seem to around from those days.

Trump only has 2 years to pass his reforms due to the legislative calendar there.
It will be epic, the US is in its last somersault of a doomed aged stallion
Maybe that electroshock will give it a second life/revive for a generation, but i doubt..too far gone imho
I nevertheless prefer the trade war to the hot war the democrats and EU have in mind.
Will we have a trade war: yes and chances are high that we will be first in line for casualties sitting as we do in the middle of thf battle field with no armour

Not surprising, Trump's in la la land.

I think it's going to be 4 years of unstable economies and unpredictability due to his desperation.

Still thinks he's going to take over Canada and Greenland while the Chinese are on his back.
well desperate times formulate desperate measures

but at least the truth is now trickling out

I think it's foolish to think other countries wouldn't retaliate against Trump's tariff war, China definitely has and Canada has shown a lot of guts with tariffs of it own, The EU could be next joining the conflict. Americans will soon be with higher price rises for anything that's imported, unless you believe Trump's point of view. There's a historical precedence for a global trade war started by the Americans. Smoot and Hawley Tariffs 1932, the Trump administration have chosen to ignore history.

But isn't it the whole story?
increasing price for imported products in the US is the aim. So yes they will be dearer.
History is different because the US do not export anywhere as much and import so much more than in 90y ago.
There is a supremacy war being clearly won by China, and this is critical for the US as the end of the USD supremacy would collapse the US economy and finances.
Not doing anything is not an option for the US.
At one stage, you have reach the wall and can not kick the can further.
For us, what's happening to Australia should be our focus, and it will not be rainbow and lollipops.

yes , unless our policies change markedly we might be the mince in the hamburger ( because BOTH sides can grind us mercilessly ( if they choose to )

if they can't loot the resources in Russia , we are an easy consolation prize
