When to buy a new car?

It's not THEY, it is YOU. We are the Government of Australia as they were voted in. It is we who get the taxes.
Get real I say. If it's not Australian, in these times, DON'T buy it!
NO EXCUSES!

I agree with Monty, every man for himself. If the gov wants to spend taxes on crap like Internet filtering why should i support them.

I will support Aus when compulsary voting is removed, which would make it much more of a 'realistic' democracy.

“Of course I am minimising my tax, and if anybody in this country doesn’t minimise their tax they want their heads read, because as a government, I can tell you, you’re not spending it that well that we should be donating extra.”

Kerry Packer at Senate Inquiry.

My flaber is absolutely ghasted by your comments. God help Australia! :eek::banghead:

I'm with Mr Burns and Prawn. Really annoys me to see my taxes going to both incompetent businesses and people who spend huge handout in a couple of hours, and then say "thank you, Mr Rudd."
How about "thank you, taxpayers".

Go to the repo auctions in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

You can pick up some great deals.

Should be red hot this year with the financial collapse!

Mr Rudd is a tax payer as well. Come along, it's all pull together now, not in opposite directions. The situation is dire, not for wimps, slackers or wingers.

I'm looking at buying a new car, sorry if this is slightly OT.
They are offering mad deals now and all seem desperate, but the cars are 2008 plate.
I'm thinking that in about 2-3 months when the 2009 build cars come through the dealers may be in more pain so might get similar deals or better but one build year old less for resale value.
Anyone got any thoughts?

Friend in the trade advised to haggle with the larger dealerships always in the last week of a month as they can get huge bonus's from the makers if they reach certain quota of registrations. Usually this means better price & more freebies thrown in than at beginning of month. Also said there should be some ripper deals just before 30/6.

I saved over 9k on a 40k car by haggling at 4:30pm June 30 last year.

And got a 5 year extended warranty on top of that.

End of financial year is the way to go, chaps.

Does anyone know how far you can push a deal?

What is a dealerships margin?

How low would they be prepared to go on say a $30,000 (recommended price) car?

Cheers

Tell you what, when i can choose where my taxes go, or at least a fair % of them, then i will stop minimising my tax.

Im only a student at the moment, but i make sure i give enough to charity so that i wont pay any tax, as i feel that my charities will put it to better use than the Aus gov (Labour or Liberal).

Minimising your tax is legal and smart, the alternative is to say, well my tax is say $20,000 but I'll pay $25,000

People get tax minimisation confused with tax evasion which is avoiding what you have to legally pay.

One is correct the other illegal.

Never stop minimising your tax.

Some charities have invested their money unwisely in America and have been liquidated. That is, lost all the money given to them.
Europe is now investigating funds that were transferred by Madoff and it is expected these losses, through packaged schemes, have tentacles stretching to the Middle East, Far East and Asia.

Suddenly remembered the topic was on, when to buy a new car, and I was just about to discuss various charities. Needs a new thread maybe.

A good ploy with the auctions is try to identify the car dealers and then when they stop bidding you know the car is getting to the top end of the range you should be paying. Bid a couple of hundred above this point and you should get a good price, if you are then out bid by another retail buyer just wait for the next car.

Dealers often tie up the bidding in advance. That is, organize who is lined up for a car beforehand. Bids often go through very quick at times, often seems, hopefully not true, that who takes the Auction knows this.
I'm not a trusting person and bidding from the heart is not the way to do it.
