Whats more powerful - fear or greed?

Generally I think fear will overpower greed when forced to choose between the two. Greed only gets a chance when we manage to suppress our fears.

I'm working on an idea.
Need your opinion... you may chose to answer from a personal view or just your perspective
Please be true to yourself with your answer.
I'll share the idea if there are enough participants.

Bob.
It's definitely 'FEAR' for me Bob

Fear is more powerful in my opinion.

Agreed with the notion that some "greed" is actually "fear" in disguise. Fear of missing out etc.

I don't have an opinion on which is stronger but
What is the defining action of the market to fear
or
to greed ?

Some of us are fear adverse and some fear seeking and I would guess the same applies to greed.

What re-action are you expecting from a fearful market or from a greedy one.
is a greedy market always bullish?

Hi Bob

I would say greed.

In my opinion fear is a more subconscious base emotion. We are all born with self-preservation as a core instinct and fear is an involuntary emotion that is part of that primary core instinct.

I think greed is more powerful because it is something that rises above mankinds core emotions.

If we didn't have greed.....to make money, buy goods and chattels, have the lifestyle we want..........we wouldn't be worried about the fear of losing it.

Well you would not have regretted buying a house in 2000 and selling in 2003. If u didnt sell in 2003 to realise those massive gains; then fear is not the problem, its GREED

But for the record Bob, Fear is more powerful i would say

Bob, did we meet the participant threshold, and if so what are your thoughts on this?

I agree with Wayne here,

Think about why are we all here in the first place? Why do we invest? Sure some may derive some form of happiness (utility) from investing, others may enjoy the 'gamblers rush' but most of us are here to make money, is it greed that drives us? or is it the fear of missing out? I'd say a bit of both

So which emotion is stronger?
As Wayne correctly asserted "I think it oscillates around the prevailing social mood. Whole populations become either greedy or fearful based upon "

I believe they are equally as strong, however believe that fear is embraced much quicker than greed, ie panic selling usually has a faster downward move than greed buying,

Just my thoughts...... I mean Wayne's thoughts..... I mean our thoughts

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all your input .

I'm interested in short time speculation, therefore the speed of price change.
Fear & Greed is seen in price volatility, this volatility is fear or greed !

As I said its the speed of change I'm most interested in.
If you placed a speedo on both who is the fastest ?
I beleave its fear.
So to trade fear you need to be fast also, this is what I hope to do.

Fishbacks--- Odds probability Cones may interest some, especially the option analysis.

Bob.
