Western Australia

Amazing news. You would have thought he would be in for a decade.
Probably been offered a nice job in the private sector, pretty close friends with the top end of town, but a huge loss to the State, IMO he ranks up there in the top three premiers in my time.

Big shot in the arm for the Libs, they crashed and burned when Barnett left, McGowan will leave the same sort of vacuum IMO.
With Ben Wyatt gone, next best is that far behind they are out of sight, it will certainly level up the playing field a lot.
I wonder what is over the horizon, that has brought it about, interesting times.

It will also put a lot more pressure on Albo, McGowan gave Labor a lot of cred locally and on the Federal scene, massive hit as Andrews appears to be imploding and Queensland is on wobbly wheels IMO.

It's all a bit sudden, innit? I wonder if there is something else behind it?

Yes one does wonder, possibly big career change or privatisation of something my guess. It all adds to the theatre of politics.
The renewables issue in W.A is a bit more critical than the East coast, I wonder if there is a clash between ideology and reality in the Labor camp (Federal/State)

Unfortunately nearly 90% of W.A people disagree, but that is the thing with politics, it is about fitting in with the narrative.
McGowan was a bit of a dictator, probably because of lack of faith in those under him, he made hard decisions and wore the consequences and the media cut him a lot of slack. Result 90% popularity.

Morrison very similar situation, but a hugely greater responsibility, because he was actually supplying funding and underpinning the whole of Australia, took on board a lot of personal responsibility as McGowan did, wasn't liked by the media. Result 0% popularity.

Such is life.

As I look around me, I'm comfortable being in the 10%

Bit p1ss weak today's politicians.
Those tattoos won't age well.

John Howard copped more sht then anyone. He had to wear a bullet proof vest at one stage. Although scomo toughed it out as well.

This has the stench of being a cover story for the real reason.

But the Lithium train is rolling steadily forward.

Sir R I supposse 30 years in politics is a long time and being a Minister and then Premier it must take a toll on the body and mind eventually. I for one am glad we had him as Premier for the last few years.

Sorry Wayne I put Magnificent Mark way out in front. That is going to take someone a long, long time to reach that pinnacle of success.
I agree, if you like totalitarian dictators, a police state and a shambolic health system.

Had pretty much total power and yet kept to the middle ground got the GST back ran surpluses, built infrastructure, roads etc he also showed how hollow the state Libs had become with COVID shut the gate with the massive majority agreeing those not agreeing weren’t Western Australians they didn’t have the chip on their shoulders.

Retiring at the top of your game is what rare champions do he will go down as one greats of Australian State politics meanwhile the hater’s are going to snipe away as they do
