Ukraine War

According to Voice of America, Ukrainian pilots arrived in Arizona and began training for flights on F-16 fighter jets. The United States does not seem to be going to stop until they bring the war in Ukraine to the extreme. Let's not forget that Ukraine is just a place where there is a war between the US and NATO on the one hand , and Russia on the other hand. Today it is clear that no one can afford defeat. This means that no one cares about the fate of Ukraine itself and Ukrainians. And this means that this territory will turn into a desert. However, it should be clear to everyone who is to blame for this. It was not Russia that came to America, it was the United States that came to Ukraine to tear it away from Russia and create its own military stronghold here against Russia. And it's not Russia that came to America to fight the US. It was the United States that came to Ukraine and entered the war with Russia. Russia at home, Russia on its soil and Russia will defeat the Ukrainian army of the US and NATO and will inevitably win. http://t.me/vicktop55/14858

As reported by a Russian (cough) journalist so I'm sure it is unbiased...

Before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Olha Bihar was a lawyer working for a firm in Kyiv while completing her PhD in tax law.

Fifteen months later, the 31-year-old is a commander of a mortar unit, an artillery officer and a veteran of the Battle of Bakhmut with the call sign, Witch.

Reports Russia have just blown up an important dam. If the loss of this dam significantly affects the civilian population then I think this is against the Geneva Conventions, so another war crime. They're adding up.

Also the Zaphorizhia nuclear plant uses water for cooling

The dam in question seems to be part of a cascade system, that is multiple dams on the river at progressively lower elevation with the same water re-used multiple times for power generation.

That's a very common design element in hydro systems as a means to both maximise water storage and reduce construction cost. That basic approach to design can be found in many places around the world including Australia.

In this case however, looking at the chart of water levels, my thought is there's been an intentional flooding of the reservoir so as to maximise the impact of the dam's destruction. Easily done in a cascade system with controlled spillways and also easily avoided or worked around in the event of a legitimate equipment failure. That being so, it's highly unlikely to be anything other than a fully intentional act by the Russians done with the knowledge it would be blown up.

Maximum water level = maximum damage.

likely flooding ....

Coincidence of the UKR offensive further east?
Yakymivsyky district: In the area of Peremozhne and Annovka villages, the occupying forces blew up chain of ponds, having previously filled them with water to the maximum. The road to Kherson, fields with plantations are completely flooded...

These are deeper in Kherson oblast, half eay ro Crimea . Part of a nature reserve. Ecocide as a war tactic.

At the risk of being accused of being a kremlin lover, I would question whether indeed this can be reliably attributed to the Russians.
In a Podcast over a week ago, Peter Zeihan outlined why the Ukrainians might disable the irrigation canals, plus some background on the Russians draining the unpronounceable lake.
He also noted that the Russians had been draining the dam to historic lows for a few months.
One also needs to remember that at the very begining of the war, the Ukrainians blew up a dam called I think the Urpin River dam that is upstream of the recently blown up Kakhovka.
It should also be noted that the flooding along the river will have a greater impact on the Russian side, as its largely low lying swampy land , whereas the Ukrainian side is higher ground, and most of Kherson is well above the flood level.
The area most affected, the crimea, has been in Russian hands for a few years, and unless there is a complete rout of Russia, likely to stay in Russia's hands for some time.
So the Ukrainians can safely let the Russians deal with the potential starvation, loss of food production etc.
Like the bombing of the Nordstream plant, the politics are murky, the military and tactical advantages for all sides are mixed, and the propaganda machines on all sides are in overdrive.
As they say in the world, one of the first casualties of the war is truth.
