Ukraine War

Makes you wonder where this will end up when AI is operationalised into weapons, if that happens. There's probably a UN resolution been drafted as to how far autonomous weapons can go, if not already out there. Could end up like Terminator 3 if we're not careful.

edit: it was T3 that saw the rise of the machines with Skynet becoming self aware and making a first strike.
Combining low and high tech.
I recently discovered Australia's Sypac cardboard drone. A 100 per month being sent in flatpacks.

The Sypac site must be under DDOS attack and won't load but here's a Forbes article about "paper planes".

Although America has contributed massively to Ukraine's war effort, it still refuses to arm or support it with weaponry that could turn around the Russian threat.
This includes long range missiles such as MGM-140 ATACMS and fighter aircraft capable of carrying sophisticated long range AGM missiles such as JASSM-ERs.
Maybe Sweden's Grippens can make their way into Ukraine air force as they are highly adaptable and readily accept NATO's various missile systems.
Not to put too fine a point on it but gravity is the enemy of missiles, and air launch capability massively increases range and while also keeping delivery craft a long way from harm's way.
Meanwhile the M1 Abrams are still many months off and were only put on the table reluctantly.
I have had the feeling America has been running out its old stock, which is clearly better than nothing for Ukraine, but it could have still provided some leading edge capabilities.

This war can't drag on for years . It will have to end eventually and I have the feeling the yanks want that, now.
Retaking Donetsk and Luhansk will just cost too much.
And the good guys can forget about ever getting Crimea back.
"Crazyman" Putin's redline on using tactical nukes is bang on the border, there.

Russia/China are open to negotiations

USA isn't

It's very interesting that China is leading the peace talks in several areas at the moment, and also getting off the US Dollar for trade with a whole lot of nations.

US Dollar collapse?

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken pointed out that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are currently off the table, noting that Moscow has to show its readiness for "constructive" talks.
During his meeting with the German press on Friday, Blinken stated that Russia had to demonstrate its willingness to engage in "constructive negotiations" with the goal of a "just and lasting peace."

Although the idea of a ceasefire may be "tempting," it will not contribute to a "just and lasting peace" if it means "ratification" of Moscow's control over the territories that joined Russia after the start of the military operation in Ukraine, according to the American official.

Biden and Ukraine don't want to negotiate. There will be a big push soon to kick out the Russians.

The US could go further and put boots and nukes in Ukraine.

I doubt they will but it would send a signal.

Russia is probably sick of the war anyway and would find a way out if the odds were against them.

There's US, UK and Canadian SF in Ukraine already. Have been since the start. Not sure why, but Canada had a significant SF training team in Ukraine for the past several years and I'm not sure if they ever left. Next, the other 'trainers and advisors' from multiple nations will be in-country. We've seen this play out before.

One needs to look at history.
Russia have fought and lost many wars.
The ones where they win last a long time, and have many casualties.
Their modus operandi has always been to throw more soldiers at everything.
Even if they have casualties of ten to one versus the other side, eventually the sheer weight of numbers overwhelms.

Is this propaganda, or do you reckon prisoners are having their heads chopped off?

No one will ever know.
Even if it is Russians..... You can't hold the whole country accountable for a few out of control milita groups.

Why not blame the whole country?
I'd say because of an out of control president and his grip on power keeping most of that country zombified and **** scarred into thinking he can't be outsted, there lies the problem.

The solution and from our very own Farnsy.

"You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh, whoa
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh, whoa"

Can't lock up everyone.

Surprised no one has read the leaked documents?
I've only heard not read actual documents that Ukraine is losing 7 soldiers to every Russian and are losing pretty badly.

Also that it is indeed a proxy war for the US.

Everyone is a tough rebel freedom fighter until they actually have to ........ fight for their freedom.

Yeah, nah. Even if there's an element of truth that's just a throw away statement and certainly doesn't apply to the Ukrainian's.

With the Russian's, those that left that country certainly fought for their freedom by a different means.
Those that stayed most likely fled underground and probably carrying out sabotage and other guerilla tactics.

Or in jail or drafted and sent to the front.
Russia is a very tough and ruthless country under Putin. When a 12 year old girl is taken from her father and put into care for producing a no war picture in school you know they are taking no prisoners.

What happens to anti war activists in Russia.

Moscow jails activist for 25 years for opposing Ukraine war

Vladimir Kara-Murza’s harsh sentence is the longest yet given to political opponent of Vladimir Putin

A court in Moscow has sentenced the opposition activist Vladimir Kara-Murza to 25 years in prison, in one of the most high-profile cases to date of a Russian dissident being jailed for opposing the invasion of Ukraine.

Kara-Murza, who holds Russian and British citizenship and studied at the University of Cambridge, was detained in April 2022 and charged with spreading false information about the Russian army in Ukraine. He was later also charged with high treason over a series of public speeches he made that criticised Kremlin policies and the war in Ukraine.

Kara-Murza’s sentence is the longest yet given to a political opponent of Vladimir Putin, as the Kremlin further steps up its relentless crackdown on dissent.

In a final speech to the court last week, Kara-Murza struck a defiant tone, declined to ask the court to acquit him, and said he stood by everything he had said. “I only blame myself for one thing,” Kara-Murza, 41, whom Amnesty International has designated a prisoner of conscience, said.

“I failed to convince enough of my compatriots and politicians in democratic countries of the danger that the current Kremlin regime poses for Russia and for the world.”
Kara-Murza’s sentencing, which he compared to Stalin’s show trials, was held behind closed doors.
