Good story. Well worth watching. Lot's of intriguing themes. Check out who were part of the funding team at the end. :)

Been watching Stanley Tucci on SBS. He has an outstanding series on discovering Italy. Visits 20 regions and each episode to date is a delight.

I started watching Ozark on Netflix a few weeks ago. Getting to end of Series 3. The last episode I just watched was one of the most powerful, gutwrenching programs I have ever seen.

This is truly awful/truly great story telling.

Premise

After a money-laundering scheme for a Mexican drug cartel goes wrong, financial advisor Marty Byrde proposes to make amends by offering to set up a bigger laundering operation in the Lake of the Ozarks region of central Missouri. Marty suddenly moves his family from the Chicago suburb of Naperville to the remote summer resort community of Osage Beach, Missouri.[16] When the Byrdes arrive in Missouri, they become entangled with local criminals, including the Langmore and Snell families, and later the Kansas City mafia.[9]

.........
Ozark received positive reviews from critics throughout its run, with particular praise for its tone, directing, production values, and performances (particularly those of Bateman, Linney, and Julia Garner). The series has received a total of 45 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including three for Outstanding Drama Series, with Bateman winning for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series in 2020 and Garner winning three times for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, in 2019, 2020, and 2022. Bateman has received two further Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actor – Television Series Drama.

@basilio the wife put on a movie that wasn't bad last night, I'd say it would be right up your street, it's called "The Woman King".
Apparently based on true events, I would say that would be vaguely correct, but not a bad show really.

Interesting. I'm into a range of shows and ironically I just finished watching a program that was true, earth shattering and unbelievable.

In fact... it was called Unbelievable.

This a totally true story. It starts with a young girl being raped in her bedroom. The rapist takes photos of her, cleans up after himself , is very careful.

She reports it to police. A few days later after comments from people the police re interview her and end up suggesting she wasn't actually raped.

This is just beginning of series of rapes by this guy across multiple counties. Two women detectives are the driving force behind linking the multiple rapes to a single perp. I checked up the real story and the Netflix presentation is very close.

Far better than any work of fiction. Highlights (yet again) the difficulties woman face being believed when they are sexually assaulted. The reality behind police investigations of sexual assault.

The first url is the Netflix site wiith summaries of the episodes
Second URL is a Time story which summarised the original story and the Netflix series
The final url is the original publication by propublica which highlighted the miscarriage of justice and the efforts of the two woman detectives to solve the serial rape crimes.

The Minimalists ....on Netflix

about stuff. quite interesting exploration of the psychological drives.

... and the "vertical expansion of our reference frames". No more just keeping up with the Joneses.

Just finished watching Alexander; The Making of a God on Netflix.

Always "knew" about Alexander the Great and how he conquered the world in 10 years ectera. But this doco/reenactment was gripping and eye opening. It's easy to say that Alex skipped out of Macedonia with a 40k strong army and then systematically destroyed and overthrew the Persian Empire which at that stage had 150million people and was 50% of the European/Asian world. Be a bit like Ancient Greece overthrowing the Roman Empire at its largest size. But think about it . How the hell did he achieve such a feat ?

The way Alexander won his battles was astonishing. Courage, left field strategy, eye popping diplomacy and absolute drive to conquer the world. IMV well worth a look.

One of the interesting features was how in the first episode they present a passionate love scene between Alex and his best friend Hephaestion . The presenters cut in to point out male-male sexual relationships were just normal in Macedon. No big deal. So they got that aspect of Alexander out of the way . We never see another overt reference to this for the rest of the series but of course Hep is with him all the way.

Drew calls on some legendary hoarders like Chris, who collects cement mixers and has a herbaceous car park, but see if he will be able to persuade anyone to sell their stuff. As the owner of one of the largest decorative salvage yards in the United Kingdom -- Fabulously British Salvage -- Drew Pritchard is always looking for new pieces to replenish his shop, and he has no problem scouring the countryside to find them. This series follows Drew all over the country, including some privileged estates, as he hunts for old and forgotten pieces of history. But finding them is only part of the business; Drew must then convince the owner of each item to sell it to him at a fair price, and then it's off to the salvage yard, where his team restores it to its original shine before it can be sold for profit.

Watched a fascinating episode of "Every Family has a Secret" last night.
The story begins with a brother and sister interested in the life of their French mother who had fled Europe after WW2. They already know they had two different fathers. They rest of the story is a fascinating insight into Europe and post war France/Europe.

Great story and intriguing history.

Noni Hazlehurst presents as everyday Australians uncover the dark, sinister secrets, buried in their families' pasts.

Just watched the first episode of Life after Life with other half.
Highly recommend.
Rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 100%. BBC2. Free on iview.

Years ago the story of con joined twins Abby and Brittany Hansel was big news. Two separate people sharing a single body. Very close indeed.

They are now 34 years old. One of the twins has married. I came across a website which featured a documentary of them.

My kids recommended Fallout on Amazon.

Post-apocalypse drama.

Pretty good first two episodes. However bad things are in the world at present, they could be worse.
