I'm trying to choose some charting software but don't know where to start. I'm aware of some of the free options like Incredible Charts, Big Charts, and Yahoo Finance, but they are all limited in some way.. The online options provide live data (delayed to some extent) but not many indicators.

One specific indicator I'm looking for is 'Volume at Price' (VAP) and none of the free packages as far as I'm aware has this.

Should I purchase some online software and suscribe to a data service or is there another option out there? I want minute, hourly, ..... through to daily data with less of a time lag as possible. Also need VAP and any other useful indicators included.

What would all the experienced traders out there suggest?

Try Trading View.

www.tradingview.com

Simple to use, sign up for the 30 day free trial and if you like it don't pay until the very end of the trial as they will give you a discount.

You need to pay for the basic package to access the VAP tools which are part of the free trial.

Thanks for the answer.. I'm wondering if there are any others. Trading View is definitely what I'm looking for but I want to compare a few and have no idea where to start looking.

I have been using http://www.paritech.com.au/products/ for almost 10 years.
It suits me perfectly, but that doesn't mean it's right for you.
They offer a free trial, so you can check it out.

I notice Paritech have a new webpage. Product prices by enquiry now?

Do any of these packages provide hourly and minute volume? I'm looking at incredible charts which only gives me end of day data and it doesn't seem to show volume on any data less than 1 day.

You’ll need to pay for that
If your trading with IB you’ll get it
If you just want historical data
tickdata.com

I trade with IB and get Live Minute/10 min etc on my phone.
