NRA defiant as America mourns Newtown victims
The NRA is refusing to back tighter gun controls in response to one of the worst shootings in American history, instead calling for armed guards in all US schools.
The powerful US gun lobby group went gone on the offensive as Americans marked one week since the Newtown school massacre.
NRA vice president Wayne LaPierre urged lawmakers to station armed police officers in all schools by the time students return from the Christmas break in January.
Speaking in Washington, Mr LaPierre noted that while banks and airports in the US are patrolled by armed guards, schools typically are not.
"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," he said.
These fools need to be outlawed, this just makes me angry..............

Perhaps someone over there should set up an opposing association, see how many members they would get. over 4 mill ? easy.........
If someone over there doesn't set up an opposing group to the NRA within a month they're just not serious.
It's a no brainer, NRA has 4m members an opposing group would have 10 times that in no time, let the polititians not act then.
Although i am not very knowledgable on the subject, i beleive there are a number of alternative groups. Just none with the backing of big money and none that are centralised as the NRA is
Yes there would be but I thought the sheer force of numbers would force change, perhaps now with social media being so widely used something might happen.
I do think change will come Mr Burns.
People are disgusted with his statements -- its all $$$
Who wants their children in a school, like in a prison, with security guards around them?
And thats exactly how its becoming...
Agree.
More atrocities will continue to occur as the nutters will buy up and stockpile arms before Obama acts.

Somewhere between 40-50% of Americans own guns. The NRA may have some more extreme views but much of what they advocate is mainstream American opinion.
Changing or removing the Second Amendment has absolutely zero chance of ever passing.

I have lived in the USA and worked most of my life working with Americans, I would say that 95PC of them own guns, most of them will own many.
I wouldn't be so sure, plenty who have guns would rather not, but do as they think they can prrotect themselves.
